Colby cops overtime win over Beavers

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Colby College outlasted the University of Maine at Farmington 66-63 in overtime in non-conference men's basketball action this evening at Wadsworth Gymnasium.

The Beavers (9-7) are scheduled to visit Green Mountain College Friday for North Atlantic Conference play with the women's game at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's. The Mules improved to 6-11.

Kevin Leary (Manchester, Maine) matched his career-best 19 points, including five 3-pointers, to lead the Beavers. Pet Sumner (Cramerton, N.C.) hit four threes and finished with 16 points in the loss, while Yusuf Iman (Auburn Maine) added a collegiate-high 15 points.

Eric Beaulieu (Concord, Mass.) finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds for Colby. Beaulieu was 7-for-11 from the field and added three assists, two blocked shots, and two steals. Ben Foreman (Los Angeles, Calif.) finished with 11 points and six assists for the Mules. Kyle Donovan (Portland, Maine) added 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds, while Shane Rogers (Newburgh, N.Y.) chipped in eight points, seven rebounds, four assists (no turnovers), and two steals. Nick Rimsa (Andover, Conn.) came off the bench with six points and three rebounds in limited minutes.

Colby trailed 56-54 when Connor O'Neil (Freeport, Maine)  hit a baseline jumper with 1:45 to play in regulation. UMF went ahead again when Nate Carson (Orrington, Maine) nailed a pair of free throws with 1:10 to play. Beaulieu, though, came up big when he scored inside off a nice feed from O'Neil with just 16 seconds to play. UMF took an early shot with about nine seconds to play, but did not pay for it after the Mules turned the ball over.
 
Colby jumped out to a 65-60 lead when O'Neil hit a bucket with 53 seconds to play in overtime. Sumner nailed a 3-point shot with 47 seconds left and the Mules lead was down to 65-63. Foreman hit one of his two free throws with 16 seconds to play for a 66-63 margin. UMF missed two 3-point shots in the final nine seconds.
