Vassar Men's Basketball Shut Down By Hobart 72-40

GENEVA, NY (January 20, 2012) -- The Vassar College men's basketball team led 12-10 10 minutes into the game but Hobart College took over with a 20-5 run to end the first half en route to a 72-40 win in Liberty League action on Friday at Bristol Gym.

The first half featured five ties and four lead changes with Vassar holding its largest lead at 10-7 with 12:09 left in the period. The Statesmen shot a blistering 62.5 percent from the floor in the second half and grew their lead to 34 points with 1:16 to play.

The Brewers (5-8, 1-3 Liberty) continue the road trip against Rochester Institute of Technology on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. The first-place Statesmen (12-2, 5-0 Liberty) host Bard College on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.

Hobart's Matt Pebole and Richey Bonney ignited the Statemen with eight and six points, respectively, during Hobart's 20-5 run for a 30-17 halftime lead. Bonney finished with a game-high 20 points and game-high nine rebounds while Pebole tallied 12 points and eight boards.

Freshman Alex Snyder led Vassar with eight points.

Hobart capitalized on a 30-9 points off turnovers advantage and a 40-20 points in the paint edge.
