WESTON, Mass. – Medgar Evers College led wire-to-wire in a 78-50 win over Maine Maritime in the consolation game of the Regis Tipoff Tournament. The Cougars (2-1) opened the game with a 10-0 run and never looked back. The Mariners (0-3) trailed by double-digits for the final 30 minutes of the game.
The Cougars had two players post double-doubles and four score in double figures. Valin Williams scored 10 points and secured a game-high 15 rebounds, while Jovan Deare scored 14 points and brought down 10 boards. Jarrel Deare led all scorers with 16 points and Douglas Winston scored a dozen points to go with eight rebounds.
The Mariners saw three players score in double digits. Shawn Dostie (Bowdoinham, Maine) posted his second double-double in as many games with a 12-point, 10 rebound effort. Tyler Pineo (Corinth, Maine) scored 11, while Andy Ball (Hermon, Maine) scored 10 and hauled in five rebounds.
Maine Maritime turned the ball over 24 times in the loss. The defending CUNYAC champions converted that into 25 points.
The Mariners are idle until after the Thanksgiving holiday. MMA returns to action at home against Maine-Augusta on November 29th.
