DePauw dominates down low and hands Hendrix its fifth-straight loss

GREENCASTLE, Ind. (Jan. 16) -- DePauw University scored over half its points in the paint and Hendrix College shot a season-low 21.4 percent from behind the arc as the Tigers earned a dominant 74-52 victory on Sunday afternoon at Neal Fieldhouse.

DePauw (10-6, 5-2 SCAC) had four players in double figures and led the entire way, despite a pair of ties in the opening minutes. The Tigers stretched their lead to nine points, 18-9, on a layup from senior Ross Simpson with 12:45 left in the first half.

Hendrix (4-11, 0-7 SCAC) chipped away at its deficit and eventually trailed by just four points, 22-18, with 6:27 left before the break. DePauw responded and outscored Hendrix 12-5 the rest of the way to take a 36-25 advantage into the locker room.

The Tigers opened the second half with a 17-4 run to own a 53-29 lead with 12:39 left in regulation. DePauw would lead by at least 20 points the rest of the way.

First year Michael Wilkison and senior Ryan Sever led the Tigers with 16 points apiece. Junior Sean Haseley added 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds, while Simpson rounded out the double digit scorers with 10 points.

Senior Dane Nielsen led Hendrix with a career-high 13 points, while junior Nick Heathscott scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Junior Ammon Martin added eight points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field.

Hendrix falls to 3-18 all-time against DePauw. The Warriors return to Grove Gymnasium to host SCAC rival Rhodes College on Friday, Jan. 21 at 8 p.m. CT and then Birmingham-Southern College on Sunday, Jan. 23 at 3 p.m.
