The last couple of outings, the UW-Stout men's basketball team let a halftime lead get away from them. The Blue Devils didn't let that happen as they downed 21st ranked UW-Whitewater, 85-80, at Johnson Fieldhouse Saturday.

Jerrod Buchholtz scored six points in the final 2-minutes, 30-seconds of the game, then took a charge with 10 seconds left in the game with Stout leading 83-80. Moments later, Erik Olson sealed the game by draining two free throws.

Stout (4-3, 1-1 WIAC) led by as much as nine points in the first half and carried a six point, 48-42, lead into halftime.

The Warhawks (3-2, 1-1 WIAC) took a run at Stout midway through the second half and the lead changed hands several times until Eric Hostetter  hit a 3-pointer with 7:02 on the clock for a 67-64 Stout lead.

Stout never trailed thereafter, but the Warhawks did pull to within one point several times. Buchholtz gave Stout a 78-73 lead with a 3-pointer at 2:29, then drew a foul with his bucket in the lane with 52 seconds left, made the basket and Stout held a six point, 81-75 lead.

Whitewater got as close to three points, 81-78 on a 3-pointer by DJ Dantzler, but Hostetter drained a pair from the free throw line to go up83-78. Alex Edmunds pulled Whitewater to 83-80.

Steve Pax made a free throw with 10 seconds left, but the point was waved off due to a lane violation. On the next play, Buchholtz took the charge. Olson was fouled on the inbound pass and both sides - the first one rolled around the rim before falling in - fell in.

Hostetter led all players with 25 points and scored his 1000th career point in the process, needing 13 coming into the game. Hostetter got the marker at the buzzer right before halftime.
