No. 2 Transylvania withstood a fourth-quarter rally from No. 1 Christopher Newport and pulled away from the Captains in the final minute to win the 2023 NCAA Division III women's basketball title. Riley Zayas has the story from Dallas.

Transy knocking on door of dream season
No. 2 Transylvania defeated No. 4 Smith 67-56 in the national semifinals and moved one step closer to finishing their dream season with a perfect record. After growing up together and playing high school basketball separately, Gabbi San Diego and Camille Malagar have reunited as Christopher Newport's starting backcourt. Sweet 16 has a critical mass
The NCAA put three of the four women's sectionals in Massachusetts, and none in Texas, which hasn't hosted a sectional since 2008. In fact, teams currently in Region 10 have hosted just one women's sectional in 14 years, and just one men's sectional since 2000.

Second round: Saturday Knights alright
The Wartburg Knights guaranteed that Division III will have a new national champion by knocking Hope out of the Tournament, while Rhode Island College ended No. 3 Scranton’s perfect season in the second round of the 2023 NCAA Division III women’s basketball tournament. Elsewhere, No. 4 Smith survived and No. 5 Trinity (Texas) beat No. 12 Hardin-Simmons for the third time this season.

Late rallies lift Skidmore, Oshkosh
Skidmore rallied from a 13-point fourth quarter deficit to beat Johns Hopkins while UW-Oshkosh lost its 13-point lead but then came back to tip Washington & Lee. Elsewhere, Marietta won a thriller in Upstate New York, Wartburg ousted Baldwin Wallace, and the SUNYAC went 2-0 in Round 1 of the 2023 Division III women's basketball NCAA Tournament.
