Transylvania women's basketball coach Juli Fulks has announced she is leaving Transylvania. The 2023 D3hoops.com co-Coach of the Year honoree is leaving Division III to become head coach at Division I Marshall.

Fulks coached at Transylvania for 10 years, amassing a 242-39 winning percentage, after coaching 10 years at Lewis & Clark. She leaves Division III with a career mark of 400-143, including a 91-2 mark in the past three seasons.

Hannah Varel, the associate head coach, was elevated to head coach at Transylvania. She joined the program as an assistant coach in 2020 and was promoted to associate head coach before the 2023-24 season.

Fulks is the ninth Division III women's basketball head coach to transition directly to a D-I head coaching job in the past six seasons. That list includes Trinity (Conn.) women's coach Emily Garner, who accepted the head coaching job at Division I Cornell this week as well.

"Embracing a 'Moneyball' philosophy, she employs cutting-edge data analytics to sharpen strategy and decision-making while her focus on psychological resilience ensures her players are as mentally robust as they are physically formidable," said Marshall president Brad Smith. "Coach Fulks isn't just crafting a team; she's shaping the future leaders of tomorrow."

"There is no doubt the impact that Coach Fulks has had during her time here," Transylvania vice president of athletics Holly Sheilley said. "National champions, 64-game winning streak, national coach of the year, and the accolades go on. However, even without any of those, Juli is a phenomenal human being that you realize you are blessed to know. No words will explain how much we will miss her, but we are excited for her and know that this next chapter in her life will be exceptional. She will always have a home at Transylvania."

One of the signature aspects of Fulks' coaching legacy is the implementation of the Guest Coach Program, which offers her players the opportunity to interact with inspirational female business and community leaders who share their experiences in the world to promote courage, leadership and personal growth among the student-athletes.

In her 10 seasons at Transylvania, Fulks won 242 games, six Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season championships, six consecutive Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament championships, and earned seven trips to the NCAA D-III tournament.

In 2022, Transylvania finished the regular season unbeaten in reached the NCAA Elite Eight for the first time in program history.

The following year, Transylvania made history and won the school's first national title in route to an undefeated season at 33-0. Madison Kellione was named Second Team All-American by D3hoops.com and was the NCAA Championship MVP. Fulks was named D3hoops.com Co-Coach of the Year. This season, Transylvania kept its winning streak going and would finish the regular season unbeaten for the third consecutive season. The Pioneers made history as they extended their win streak to 64 games. The win streak is third longest in NCAA D-III women's basketball history, seventh in all NCAA divisions for women's basketball, and eighth all time for all NCAA divisions for men's and women's basketball. The Pioneers earned their second Final Four trip before losing to eventual national champion New York University in the national semifinals. Dasia Thornton was named a D3hoops.com First Team All-American.

During the 64 game win streak, Fulks' squads were the only team to finish the 2023 season unbeaten in any sport in the NCAA or NAIA, regardless of gender.

Both Kellione and Sierra Kemelgor were named the NCAA Elite 90 Award winner while playing under Fulks.
