Heidelberg handed No. 2 Mount Union its first loss of the season, while the No. 8 John Carroll women remained perfect and the No. 11 UW-Platteville men held off UW-Stevens Point in Friday night's NCAA Division III basketball action.

Through Friday, 202 women's teams have played at least one game, along with 199 men's teams.

Heidelberg couldn't get the game-winner off in time in regulation, but the Student Princes got their revenge in overtime, outlasting No. 2 Mount Union 89-83. A game of mini-runs turned into a back-and-forth outing down the stretch, as the lead changed hands six times in the final five minutes of regulation. Collen Gurley hit a game-tying 3-pointer for the Purple Raiders (5-1, 5-1 Ohio Athletic Conference) with 55 seconds left to tie the game at 67-67. Alex Arellano answered with a 3 to give Heidelberg (6-0, 6-0) the lead 19 seconds later. Braedon Pool hit a pair of free throws with 14.7 seconds left and Dylan Woods answered with one of two to make the lead two before Gurley tied the game with six seconds to go. But it was all Heidelberg early in the overtime, as the Student Princes opened the extra session on an 11-2 run.

Woods finished with a game-high 38 points, shooting 15-for-22 from the floor and 4-for-8 from beyond the arc. Gurley and Poole scored 20 apiece for Mount Union.

No. 11 UW-Platteville survived a challenge at home from UW-Stevens Point, holding on for a 73-68 win. Peter Timmerman hit a 3-pointer for the Pointers with 4:48 left to cut the Pioneers' lead to two, and Stevens Point even got as close as one on a Philip Flory layup with 51 seconds left. But Platteville made all four of its foul shots down the stretch to improve to 3-1 on the season. In true Platteville fashion, Drew Gunnink scored 16, Quentin Shields 15 and Justin Stovall 13 in the win. Flory led all scorers with 23 for the Pointers, who fell to 1-3.

Dorian Miles scored 20 points and added 11 rebounds as Pfeiffer improved to 3-0, defeating No. 15 N.C. Wesleyan 94-71. The Battling Bishops came out hot on Friday afternoon, taking a 16-9 lead, but the Falcons flew away with it, going on a 32-12 run, then used a run of 11-0 in the second half to put the game away. For Miles, a freshman, it was the first double-double of his career. Pfeiffer shot 11-for-25 from 3-point range in the win.

Benedictine scored the first nine points of the game and went on to win its fifth consecutive game, defeating Aurora 77-68. Aurora started the second half on an 8-0 run to take a one-point lead with 12:17 left, but the Eagles (5-1) pushed back ahead a few minutes later. Benedictine won despite 21 turnovers. Marvin Agwomoh scored a game-high 19 points and added eight rebounds.

Marietta trailed Wilmington 41-35 early in the second half, but went on a 16-3 run, sparked by five points from Tim Kreeger and an old-fashioned three-point play by Jason Ellis. But the Quakers (2-5) scored the next eight and the teams went back and forth down the stretch to a 64-all tie at the end of regulation. After each team scored early in the overtime period, the Pioneers went on a quick 5-0 run to take a 73-68 edge with a minute to play. The run included points from Ellis, Kreeger and Isaly. The spurt was all the space Marietta needed and they won the game 76-70.

Craig McGee reached a rare milestone, reaching career totals of 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists for Rose-Hulman in a 79-56 win at Manchester. He is best in the program's history in assists (501), No. 15 in points (1,250) and has grabbed 540 career rebounds. RHIT improved to 7-2, while Manchester fell to 2-7

Maine was home to teams getting a game in for the first time, as the Husson men defeated Maine-Presque Isle 83-66 and the women did the same, winning 70-50.

Friday's women's games

No. 8 John Carroll remained perfect on the season, improving to 7-0 under first-year coach Beth Andrews by defeating Ohio Northern 55-52. The Polar Bears (3-4) scored seven unanswered points to tie the game at 45-45 in the fourth quarter, but Nicole Heffington and Olivia Nagy combined for nine of their 23 points in the final five minutes to help keep ONU at bay. Heffington hit a jumper and a 3-pointer, while Nagy had back-to-back layups, the last with 11 seconds left.

"When the game is tight like that, typically no one wants to take that big shot," Andrews said after the game. "Nicole Heffington is always comfortable. She feels confident to knock that down, even with the team having a rough shooting night. Olivia [Nagy] knows when she is under the basket and is able to set herself up for a good pass that it's going in. I applaud them for feeling that confidence, especially when we struggled to make shots."

Baldwin Wallace blew things open in the fourth quarter and snapped its three-game losing streak, defeating Capital 54-47. The Yellow Jackets (4-3, 4-3 OAC) scored 24 points in the fourth, nine of them from Kelsey George off the bench, who went 3-for-4 from beyond the arc. George, a sophomore, entered the night with a career high of three points. Gabby Garrett scored a game-high 15 for BW. The loss dropped Capital to 2-3.

Karin Harvey won her 300th game and Montclair State improved to 3-0 in NJAC play with a 67-46 win against Kean. It's the third consecutive win for the Red Hawks since a 79-54 season-opening loss to Salisbury in January. Montclair put the game out of reach with an 18-0 run in the third quarter. Julia Sutton led Montclair with 14 points, while Trisha Peterson added 12.
