Hiram selected Alex Dellas as its new head women's basketball coach, replacing Emily Hays who resigned in August to take the head coaching position at Dickinson. Dellas, who graduated from Hiram in 2010, was an assistant at Case Western Reserve for two seasons and Williams for three.
"When I was an undergrad, I loved the community atmosphere at Hiram," stated Dellas in the College's release. "As a student-athlete, it was great to have my professors and fellow students in the stands cheering me on. There is a sense of pride and community here that makes me really excited to come back."
Dellas played forward for four seasons at Hiram from 2007 through 2010 under then-coach Andrea Preston. Emily Hays replaced Preston in 2014-15 and was the Terriers' coach for three seasons. Last season under Hays, Hiram set a program record for wins (17) and completed back-to-back seasons with double-digit victories for the first time program history.
Dellas' hire completes a chain of events that began when Nancy Funk retired after a 31-year career at Johns Hopkins. The Bluejays hired Dickinson coach Katherine Bixby as her replacement and then Dickinson hired Hays away from Hiram.
After graduating from Hiram, Dellas spent three seasons on Pat Manning's staff at Williams and then spent two years as an assistant to Jennifer Reimer at Case Western Reserve. Dellas earned her Master's degree from Kent State.
