After losing four of its first five games, John Carroll jump-started its season by beating No. 3 Marietta 88-76.

John Carroll built a 12-point lead midway through the second half, repelled a Marietta rally and pulled away for the victory. With John Carroll leading 59-46, Marieta called timeout and came out of the break with a 10-0 run. The Blue Streaks responded with a 14-2 run, keyed by two Simon Kucharewicz layups and enough free throws down the stretch to hold the Pioneers at bay. Recap

John Carroll, which was ranked 11th in the preseason, improved to 3-4, 2-1 in the OAC while Marietta picked up its first loss at 7-1, 2-1. Kucharewicz tallied 22 points before fouling out while Dillon Young scored 22 for Marietta.

In other OAC action Jarrell Marsh scored 31 points and Muskingum muscled past No. 24 Baldwin Wallace 98-95 in overtime. The Muskies, who have won five or fewer games in conference each of the past seven seasons, are 6-1, 2-1 in the OAC. Box score

UW-Stevens Point won a thriller over No. 12 Hope 74-72 at DeVos Fieldhouse. After Bryce Williams made two free throws with 17 seconds remaining to give the Pointers a 72-69 lead, Chad Carlson answered with a three pointer to pull the Flying Dutchmen even. Stevens Point brought the ball up court and found Mark Nelson who canned the game-winning jumper with four seconds left. Box score

Ethan Bublitz scored 24 points for UW-Stevens Point, which has won four straight since opening the season 0-2. Harrison Blackledge had 17 for Hope (5-2), which picked up its first loss to a Division III opponent.

Pete Walker scored five straight points in the final minute to push Central past No. 13 Washington U. 84-80. "Pete's layup to put us up two, was all extra effort and toughness," said Dutch coach Craig Douma. "It was the play of the game for us." Recap

No. 18 North Park won its first two conference games on the road, but wasn't as fortunate in its own gym on Saturday night. The Vikings were knocked off by Carroll 84-81, as the Pioneers picked up their first CCIW win since returning to the conference. Kyle Keranen nailed a three from the corner with 1.5 seconds left to give Carroll the victory. Tanner Zaeske hit six 3-pointers and scored 27 points for Carroll (5-2, 1-1 CCIW). Juwan Henry had 22 points for North Park (6-1, 2-1 CCIW).

No. 16 Illinois Wesleyan snapped its two-game losing streak by routing Elmhurst, 88-57.

No. 10 UW-Eau Claire found enough offense down the stretch to get past Buena Vista, 62-60. Jared Schneidermann had 18 points for Eau Claire (7-0), including the game-winning free throws after the Beavers pulled even with under two minutes to play.

Bridgewater State likely ended Endicott's stay in the Top 25. After Kamahl Walker hit a three with 69 seconds left to put Endicott up four, the Bears scored the game's final eight points for an 86-82 win. Rocky DeAndrade's three-point play with 13 seconds left proved to be the game winner. Walker finished with 25 points, nine rebounds and eight assists for Endicott (6-1). Recap

Lasell held a two-point lead six minutes into the second half at top-ranked Amherst before the Purple and White blew the Lasers away, 92-68. Amherst (8-0) made 16 3-pointers and Jayde Dawson capped his awesome week with 34 points.

Other streaks outside the Top 25 kept going. Wesleyan (Conn.) hammered Westfield State 90-52 to improve to 9-0. Undefeated Ramapo trounced winless Kean 96-62. New Jersey City kept pace with the Roadrunners in the NJAC race with a 54-52 victory over TCNJ. Jalen Harris was the only player to reach double figures for New Jersey City and both teams shot 29 percent from the field.

Brockport took over first place in the SUNYAC with a key road win at Plattsburgh State, 94-88. Clifton Lyerly led the Golden Eagles (8-1, 4-0 SUNYAC) with 28 points. Brockport has a one-game lead on four teams, including Oswego State which edged Buffalo State 71-70 on a Brian Sortino's late three-pointer. 

Jake Brown's layup with 1:16 remaining gave Middlebury a 72-71 lead on Skidmore, and that ended up the final score as neither team scored the rest of the way. Brown finished with 22 points for the Panthers (7-1).

In the best game of the day, Texas-Tyler outlasted Hardin-Simmons 106-101 in triple-overtime. The game featured 18 ties and 11 lead changes before the Patriots finally prevailed. Melvin Anthony had 30 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists in 48 minutes for Texas-Tyler while Nathaniel Jack scored 26 points in 55 minutes for the Cowboys. Box score

William Paterson held off Stockton 61-57 in a meeting of perennial NJAC powers that are struggling so far this year. The Pioneers improve to 3-6, 1-4 in the NJAC while the Ospreys sink to 3-4, 1-4 in the NJAC.
