The first men's game of the D3hoops Classic in Las Vegas should be a doozy. Ramapo and North Central (Ill.) will face each as undefeated opponents after taking care of their Saturday opponents.
No. 11 Ramapo had no trouble with St. Joseph's (L.I.) as the Roadrunners cruised past the Golden Eagles 110-76. Ramapo scored 69 points of 51 shots in the first half. Will Sanborne had 19 points in the first half and Garret Thiel had 22 in the game.
No. 4 North Central (lll.) passed a slightly stiffer test by winning at Benedictine 61-55. Aaron Tiknis tallied a double-double for the Cardinals (14 points, 10 rebounds).
In an early matchup of HCAC contenders, Rose-Hulman edged Hanover 62-61 on a Jon Gerken layup with one second remaining. The Engineers, who trailed by nine at the half, are now 9-1.
Capital started the season slow but is now rolling in conference play. The Crusaders (6-4) improved to 4-0 in the OAC with a 83-71 win at John Carroll. Tim Congrove and Jared Cashen combined for 31 points off Capital's bench on 11-for-11 shooting. Marietta is a half-step back in the early conference race after beating Heidelberg 75-63.
No. 16 Scranton dropped its second straight, this time losing a heart-breaker at home to Keystone 94-93. The Royals erased a six-point lead in the closing minutes of regulation and then went in front by one with 35 seconds left in overitme on a Brendan Boken layup. Duncan Lunsford answered for the Giants with a layup 32 seconds later and the Royals last shot was off the mark.
Kentucky hosted one of the day's best games with Thomas More topping Spalding 99-97 in double-overtime. Jalen Clark hit a buzzer beater in the second overtime to give the Saints the victory. Drew Mumford had 24 points for Thomas More and Dewhon McAfee led the Golden Eagles with 31 points, eight assists and five steals.
Westfield State capped a great first semester in dramatic fashion. Lee Vazquez hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to lift the Owls (9-1) past Southern Maine 80-79. Jack Bramswig exploded for 41 points and 18 rebounds to lead Manhattanville past D'Youville 88-70.
Drew left an empty chair on its bench in honor of assistant coach Paul Seybold who passed away earlier this week. Then the Rangers employed the zone defense he taught them to beat TCNJ 69-66.
