Illinois Wesleyan won its eighth consecutive game and sent Augustana to its second loss in a row as the No. 25 Titans topped the No. 6 Vikings 73-63 on Tuesday night.

Jordan Zimmer scored nine of his 11 points in the second half for the Titans, while John Koschnitzky had 14 in a battle that featured 12 ties and 15 lead changes.

Bard needed just one game to get into the win column in its first men's basketball game in the Liberty League, shocking Vassar 59-57 on the road. It was Bard's first win against Vassar in the entire history of D3hoops.com. The last came in 1995.

"I told the guys after the game that I'm not going to downplay a win like this," Bard coach Adam Turner said. "It's really important. It's the school's first Liberty League win in anything ... and it was against Vassar, and we've kind of been in Vassar's shadow athletically for about the last 20 years. In a way it kind of puts our program on the map."

Bard improved to 3-6, surpassing last season's win total.

No. 18 Puget Sound fell hard at Pacific Lutheran, as the Lutes came away with an 80-62 win to improve to 6-8. Daquan Brooks scored 46 points to help carry No. 23 Western Connecticut to a 94-86 win at Keene State. The Colonials improved to 12-1 overall, 3-0 in the Little East. No. 20 Rhode Island College remained a half-game behind with an easy 73-40 win against Southern Maine.

Griffin Lentsch scored 23 points in 20 minutes as Grinnell outlasted Illinois College 115-113 to remain undefeated. It was the second game in the head coaching career of David Areseneault Jr., coaching the team on an interim basis while his father, David Sr., is on sabbatical. Fellow System team Castleton State saw all 15 players score in a 122-76 win against Lyndon State.

Greg Stern came off the bench to score 33 points on 11-for-13 three-point shooting as Hobart defeated Union 83-61. Matt Devine scored a career-high 43 points to lead New Paltz State to a 96-87 win against Potsdam State. Northwestern (Minn.) used a 15-0 second-half run to put Crown away in a 76-62 win. The Storm got 15 points from David Glover in a five-minute span to cut the lead to 59-56 but couldn't get over the hump.

Tuesday's women's action

Only one Top 25 team was in action on Tuesday night, as Danielle McNabb scored five points late in the second half to help No. 5 University of Rochester pull away from St. John Fisher for a 76-66 victory. McNabb finished with a game-high 21.

Just eight players saw action for Ursinus in a 58-54 double-overtime win against Franklin and Marshall. Lake Forest faced a 16-point second-half deficit and trailed by 14 with just over 10 minutes left before rallying to beat Knox 93-89. Liz Radtke had 17 points to lead the Foresters. Bard's women's basketball program was not as fortunate as the men, falling to Vassar 78-18. And in Castine, Maine, they couldn't even finish the first half as the game between Maine Maritime and Maine-Farmington was suspended with 1:10 remaining before the break because of a power outage.
