Spartans Blow Out Lyndon, 122-73

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. Castleton jumped out to a 77-46 halftime lead and coasted to a 122-73 victory over Lyndon as all 15 players scored for the Spartans, in North Atlantic Conference men's basketball action on Tuesday evening.

Senior David Cochrane (Virginia Beach, Va.) led six players in double figures with 17, including a perfect 3-for-3 from downtown. He also added five rebounds as Castleton improved to 5-6 overall and 4-1 in the NAC with the win. The Hornets, meanwhile, dropped to 0-12 overall and 0-6 in league play.

The Spartans shot a blistering 11-for-19 from downtown in the half and jumped out to a 35-21 lead ten minutes into the game. They went back and forth with Lyndon until an 18-4 run over the last four minutes to extended their lead to 77-46 at the break. Castleton subbed liberally throughout the remainder of the game and out-scored the Hornets 45-27 in the final half to finish with the 39-point win. Castleton also forced 26 turnovers and held the Hornets to just 36 percent shooting for the game.

Keith Schneider (Benson, Vt.), Logan White (Hartford, Vt.) and Scott Therriault (Rutland, Vt.) all chipped in with 12 points and Mark Comstock (Rutland, Vt.) added 11. Therriault added 11 rebounds for his first career double-double and sophomore Tyler Ackley (Scotia, N.Y.) dished out seven of the team's 29 assists.

The Spartans' 122 points is most since they beat Hampshire College 126-52 on Jan. 20, 1998. The 39-point margin of victory is the largest for Castleton since Jan. 17 of 2004 when they beat Maine Maritime 87-48 in Glenbrook Gym.

Jason Gray collected 17 points and 10 rebounds for Lyndon and Ben Sackett added 13 points and four assists. Devyn Baranauskas had 12 points for the Hornets and Asa Smith grabbed 11 rebounds.

The Spartans return to action on Thursday when they travel to take on New England College at 5:30 p.m.
