Rochester's Bench Plays Key Role in 76-66 Win over Fisher

ROCHESTER, N.Y. –Danielle McNabb scored five points as part of an extended 9-3 run late in the second half to help the University of Rochester pull away from St. John Fisher for a 76-66 victory.

McNabb finished with a career high 21 points. She added eight rebounds, three assists, and three steals before fouling out. Loren Wagner and Jackie Walker added 10 points apiece for Rochester (12-0). The Yellowjackets are ranked fifth in Division III this week by D3hoops.com and sixth by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.

Camaryn Buckner and Meghan Soja scored 17 points apiece for Fisher (5-8). Buckner grabbed seven rebounds, had two assists, three blocked shots, and three steals. Soja had five rebounds and two steals. Portia Velasco was Fisher's third double-figure scorer. She finished with 15 points and four assists. 

Soja made two free throws to pull Fisher within 51-46 with 10:42 left. McNabb made a layup and jumper in the paint. After a Buckner three-pointer for Fisher, McNabb made a free throw and Wagner made back to back layups, stretching Rochester's lead to 60-49 with 7:29 left. Soja's conventional three-point play with 1:48 left got Fisher within 69-62. That was the closest the Cardinals came. 

Rochester got a big boost from its bench which outscored the Fisher reserves, 42-5. Walker and Wagner both came off the bench. Michelle Ketcham scored nine points, hitting three three-point goals. Kelly Scull scored eight points in eight minutes. She had six straight in a 10-0 run late in the first half that boosted Rochester to a 32-26 halftime lead.
