No. 25 Titans Topple No. 6 Augustana 73-63 in CCIW Battle

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Senior John Koschnitzky had 14 points to lead four Titans in double figure scoring as No. 25-ranked Illinois Wesleyan downed No. 6 Augustana 73-63 at the Shirk Center on Tuesday (Jan. 10). The game was tied 12 times and there were 15 lead changes in the contest.

The Titans won for the eighth straight time and improved to 12-2 overall and 3-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, tied for first place with North Central, while Augustana lost for the second straight time and is now 11-3 overall and 1-2 in the league.

Senior Jordan Zimmer scored nine of his 12 points in the second half while junior Kevin Reed scored 11 and senior Eliud Gonzalez added 10 points.

Augustana held a 32-31 halftime lead and the final tie of the game came with 11:21 left at 50-50 before Illinois Wesleyan sophomore Andrew Ziemnik knocked in a pair of 3-pointers to help propel IWU to a 58-52 lead with 9:17 remaining.

Augie pared the IWU lead to one at 58-57 with 7:06 to go before the Titans went on an 8-0 run to build up a 66-57 lead with 4:35 remaining. The eight points came on a Zimmer 3-pointer, a basket by Ziemnik and a field goal by Zimmer.

The Vikings handled IWU on the boards, grabbing 45 rebounds compared to 30 for IWU, but Augustana shot just .328 for the game from the field (19 of 58) and connected on only four of 17 from beyond the 3-point arc (.235). Augie shot .778 from the line (21 of 27).

Troy Rorer scored 13 points to lead the Vikings and Kevin Schlitter scored 11. Kameron Norton grabbed a game-high seven rebounds.

The Titans shot .423 from the floor (22 of 52) and made eight of 18 treys (.444). IWU made 21 of 28 from the free throw line (.750).

Illinois Wesleyan hosts Carthage at 7 p.m. on Saturday (Jan. 14). The Red Men (8-6 overall and 2-1in the league) were 82-47 winners over North Park on Tuesday.
