Redlands ended its first half against Mount Union on a 19-2 run and ran the Purple Raiders out of the building in the second half, as the Bulldogs cruised to victory, 91-69. Donovan Ware’s three at the end of the first half sent Redlands to the locker room with a 57-26 lead and the Bulldogs took their lead as high as 40 points in the second half. Twelve players scored for Redlands (9-2), led by Chozen Amadi who had 17 points. The Bulldogs will play one more game tomorrow against SUNY New Paltz.
Mount Union did enjoy one highlight when Christian Parker reached the 2,000-point milestone with a free throw midway through the second half. Elijah Farrington also posted a double-double (21 points, 12 rebounds) for the Purple Raiders (6-4).
Ramapo opened the second half with a 22-5 run largely keyed by Bladen who scored 12 points in less than four minutes and chased Whittier into a time out trailing 60-31. The Poets regrouped and rallied behind their reserves and got within seven at 65-58 on Sean Cervantes’ three-pointer with five minutes to play. Ramapo settled down and pushed the lead back to 11 on Elijah Barlow’s three pointer. The Poets did not score again until the game was effectively over.
Bladen scored 23 points for Ramapo (9-3) who had a 50-32 rebounding advantage. The Roadrunners have played in 10 of the 14 Classics and with 2-0 showings in 2011, 2016 and now 2024.
The men’s action started with Hardin-Simmons snapping its five-game winning streak with an 83-74 win over SUNY New Paltz. The game turned late in the first half when the Cowboys went on a 14-1 run and flipped a two-point deficit to an 11-point lead. The Hawks scratched back within seven points late in the second half on a jumper by first-year guard Isaiah Rivera, but Hardin-Simmons sophomore Chris Bryant ensured SUNY New Paltz did not get any closer.
Bryant called for the ball in the post, scored, got fouled and completed the three-point play. On the ensuing Hawks’ position, Bryant made a diving steal at halfcourt, triggering a Cowboys’ fast break that he finished with another layup.
Bryant finished the game with 25 points on 10-for-13 shooting in 26 minutes for Hardin-Simmons (4-8), which outrebounded SUNY New Paltz (6-2) by 19 and had a 30-point scoring advantage in the paint.
Much like Saturday night, Edgewood hung tough but ultimately fell short in the final game of the night, as Wittenberg fended off the Eagles, 71-66. Wittenberg led the entire way including a 35-26 halftime lead, as Cameron Harrison and Trey Killens scored eight points apiece in the first half. The Eagles scratched back within three points at 69-66 on Drew Houtakker’s layup with under a minute left and had a chance to tie the game after Wittenberg missed two free throws. But the Eagles did not score on their ensuing possession and Killens put the game out of reach with two free throws.
He finished with 23 points, seven assists, and six rebounds for Wittenberg (5-5) while Houtakker poured in 19 points on 9-for-10 shooting for Edgewood (2-10).
Ten hours before the Wittenberg men tipped off, the Wittenberg women made their D3hoops Classic debut with a hard-fought 67-61 victory over Susquehanna in the first game of the day.
The Tigers took an 11-point halftime lead thanks to seven 3-pointers spread across five shooters. Wittenberg still led by nine points midway through the fourth quarter when Susquehanna got back-to-back threes from Kenzie Selvaggi and Sydney Weyant. The River Hawks pulled within one on two Weyant free throws with 44 seconds and Wittenberg called timeout to advance the ball.
The Tigers put the ball in senior guard Taryn Cash’s hands, and she split the Susquehanna defense for a layup. Susquehanna lost the ball on its next possession, and the Tigers iced the game with three free throws.
Five players scored double figures for Wittenberg (8-2), and Riane Burton just missed with nine points and 10 rebounds. Selvaggi led all scorers with 18 points for Susquehanna (5-5).
St. Vincent got off to a quick start and rolled past SUNY Canton, 81-56. Makenna Maier hit three 3-pointers in the first quarter and St. Vincent used its size and length to build a 26-12 lead after one period. The Bearcats pushed the lead to 24 at the break and led comfortably the rest of the way. St. Vincent’s size pushed SUNY Canton’s offense outside the arc where the ‘Roos went 5 for 28 (18 percent).
Meier finished with a double-double (20 points, 13 rebounds) for St. Vincent (5-5), which had a 12-point score advantage in the paint. Hope Aniceto scored 14 points with four 3-pointers for SUNY Canton (3-3).
