LAS VEGAS – The University of Redlands men's basketball team (9-2) won their fourth-straight game following a 91-69 win over University of Mount Union in game two of three at the D3hoops.com Classic on Sunday afternoon at South Point Arena.
It was a lower scoring first 13 minutes with the Bulldogs and Purple Raiders combining for 48 points. Redlands, though, scored 29 of those and held Mount Union to 19 as they held their first double-digit lead following a Thomas Hastings three off a Dayvon Gates assist.
The Bulldogs held their largest lead of the game as time expired at the end of the first half when Jhace Boston found Donovan Ware for a buzz-beating three that capped a 19-2 run over the final 4:58. Jake Hlywiak and Nathan Mattera combined for 11 points during that run.
Kendrick Currey opened the second half with a pair of free throws and Chozen Amadi hit a three after an Omari Ferguson offensive rebound and they were up by 36, 62-26, inside the first two minutes.
A couple of minutes later a Currey free throw and Amadi fastbreak layup made it a 40-point game with 16 minutes left.
Redlands maintained their 30-point lead until the 8:21 mark when the Raiders converted twice at the line to draw within 29.
Three minutes later Mount Union cut the deficit to 21, 83-62, as their run reached 23-5. Over the final five minutes, however, Redlands held the Raiders to only seven points and got six points from Lucas Gordon and a layup from Logan Dorsey to seal the dominant win.
12 different players scored with Amadi (17), Currey (15), and Ware (11) reaching the 10-point mark. The Bulldogs were outshot from the field 46.6 percent to 43.1, but they held the Raiders to a 40 percent mark in the first half and outscored them by a combined 34 points from three and the line.
Redlands caps their non-conference schedule with a matchup against New Paltz on Monday at 6:00 p.m. in Las Vegas.
