(NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Senior power forward Sam Toney, New Jersey City University’s two-time New Jersey Athletic Conference Player of the Year and two-time All-American, has been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season after a record-breaking week in which he moved into fifth place in school history in scoring and became the Gothic Knights’ all-time leader in three-point field goals. The honor is for week 12 of the 2019-20 season for games played January 20-26.
January 25, 2020 Sam Toney Becomes #NJCUMBB’s All-Time Three-Point King as Gothic Knights Hold Off Rowan JERSEY CITY, N.J. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Two-time NJAC Player of the Year and two-time All-American senior power forward Sam Toney became the new all-time leader in three-point field goals in New Jersey City University men’s and women’s basketball history and he and junior shooting guard Denzel Banks each registered double-doubles, combining for 55-points as the Gothic Knights held off Rowan University, 81-79, in New Jersey Athletic Conference action on January 25 at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center (Coach Charlie Brown Court).
January 18, 2020 #NJCUMBB Builds 25-Point Halftime Margin, Beats Rutgers-Camden 83-66 JERSEY CITY, N.J. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Three days after Rutgers University-Camden shocked first-place Montclair State by double figures on the road, the New Jersey City University men’s basketball team used its transition game to make sure they wouldn’t be surprised. NJCU forced 19 first-half turnovers and used a 28-5 margin in points off those giveaways to build a commanding 50-25 halftime lead, cruising past RUC, 83-66, in New Jersey Athletic Conference on January 18 at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center (Coach Charlie Brown Court).
January 15, 2020 Ramapo Shoots Past NJCU in Second Half MAHWAH, N.J. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Leading by just two at halftime, Ramapo College shot 77.8 percent from three-point range in the second half to pick up a key 81-71 New Jersey Athletic Conference victory over the New Jersey City University men’s basketball team on January 15 at the Bill Bradley Center.
January 11, 2020 GREAT SCOTT! Rookie Buries Three Straight Threes to Lift Gothic Knights on Road Over NJAC Previously Unbeaten Stockton GALLOWAY, N.J. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | Freshman shooting guard Nizair Scott buried back-to-back-to-back three-point shots in a 61-second span to bust open a tied game as the New Jersey City University men’s basketball team became the first New Jersey Athletic Conference school to knock off first-place Stockton University this year, 78-70, in league action January 11 at the Stockton Sports Center.
January 8, 2020 TCNJ Outlasts #NJCUMBB, 62-55 JERSEY CITY, N.J. (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | New Jersey City University turned a 20-point deficit into a four-point game with 2:23 remaining after a four-point play from senior small forward Jaimik Moore but the Knights couldn’t complete the comeback in the New Jersey Athletic Conference action and fell to The College of New Jersey, 62-55, in the first game of the 2020 portion of its schedule on January 8 at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center (Coach Charlie Brown Court).
