NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Carroll Senior Guard Olivia Rangel has been named the 2025 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Lori Kerans Most Outstanding Student-Athlete. That comes as part of Monday's CCIW All-Conference release, which also saw Rangel earn her fourth consecutive First Team honor, including two consecutive unanimous selections. This marks just the second time a Carroll women's basketball player has received the CCIW's Most Outstanding Student-Athlete award, and first since the inaugural year it was given in 1987. It is the seventh Player of the Year award in program history, and first since 2012, when Carroll was a member of the Midwest Conference.
Rangel, who earned the CCIW First-Year Student-Athlete of the Year Award as a freshman finished the regular season as the conference's leading scorer (18.4 points per game). The Franklin, Wis. native also leads the CCIW in both assists (4.6 apg) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.5), while ranking second in steals (3.1 spg), 17th in rebounding (5.2 rpg), ninth in field goal percentage (.457), and 12th in free throw percentage (.711).
Earlier this season, Rangel broke Carroll's career record for both assists and steals, and is just one steal shy of the program's single season record of 78. An All-America selection last season and a two-time All-Region performer, Rangel currently ranks fourth in program history for career points with 1,609. She was named to the Preseason All-America team entering this season.
Rangel has helped lead Carroll to a 17-win season for the fourth consecutive season, which marks the first such streak in program history. The Pioneers will be the second seed in this week's CCIW Tournament, as they'll try to defend their conference tournament championship and make a second consecutive trip to the NCAA Division-III Tournament. After earning a bye in Tuesday's CCIW Quarterfinals, the Pios will play their CCIW Semifinal game Friday at Shirk Center in Bloomington, Ill. at 5 p.m. against the highest remaining seed. The winner of that game will advance to the Tournament Championship to play for an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
