YORK, PA – The York College women's basketball team closed out their 2025-25 regular season with a 70-61 win over Hood College on Saturday afternoon in York.
The Spartans got off to a big start in the first quarter and hung on from there in the finale.
York improves to 16-9 overall and 9-5 in the league. The Blazers see their season come to a close with a mark of 8-17 and 4-10 in the conference.
How It Happened
• The Spartans got off to a tremendous start after their emotional senior day ceremony. York raced out to a 23-4 lead with 2:12 left in the first quarter. The Spartans were 8-for-15 from the field to start the game while they were also 2-for-5 from three and 5-for-7 from the stripe. The Blazers were 2-for-9 from the floor while they also turned the ball over nine times.
• The Blazers steadied themselves and got back into the game as they gashed the Spartans with a 10-0 run in the final 1:46 of the first quarter, slicing their deficit to nine at 23-14.
• The Spartans scored seven of the first nine points of the second quarter to push the lead to 30-16. The Blazers used the next 5:48 of play to fashion an 11-5 run, trimming the Spartan lead to 35-27. York got a bucket at the end of the quarter to take a 37-27 lead to the intermission.
• Hood outscored York 14-7 over the first 5:32 of the third quarter, cutting York's lead to a mere three points at 44-41. The Spartans finished the third quarter by scoring eight of the final 13 points of the stanza to take a 52-46 lead to the final 10 minutes of play.
• York scored six early points in the fourth to take an eight point lead to with 6:32 left in the game. The Blazers got it back to six but Breana Grim drilled a three and then hit a lay up to push the lead back to nine at 63-52. The Spartans were able to keep the Blazers at bay over the final four minutes of play to earn the nine-point win.

The Spartans finished the game shooting 40.3% (25-for-62) from the floor including 22.2% (6-for-27) from three and 73.7% (14-for-19) from the free throw line … Hood converted 39% (23-for-59) from the field including 16.7% (2-for-12) from three and 13-for-22 (59.1%) from the stripe … Hood controlled the boards as they out-rebounded York 48-31 including 17-8 in offensive rebounding … the Spartans forced 27 Hood turnovers which they turned into 25 points while the Spartans' 16 miscues cost them 10 Blazer points … York held a 15-14 advantage in assists … the Spartans had a 10-8 edge in fast break points … Hood held a 36-28 bulge in paint points while both teams had 13 second chance points … York led for 84.8% (37:56) of the game … Tiffany Manning led the Blazers with 14 points and 15 rebounds while she also had five assists in her 32 minutes of work … Chanelle Lee added 14 points, six rebounds, two steals and one assist … Aliya Taylor and Serenity Ritchie each added nine points for the Blazers.

York has now won 11 straight in the series against the Blazers as they are 18-2 all-time against Hood … prior to the game, the Spartans recognized their three seniors as Taylor Burda, Taylor Brenneman and Georgia Panopoulos were lauded for their contributions to the Spartan program … the senior class has now won 61 games including 37 conference victories … York finishes the season 10-3 at home this year … the Spartans snapped their two-game losing streak with the win … York reached the 70 point plateau for the fourth time in Commonwealth play and the ninth time overall this year … the 17 rebound deficit was the Spartans' largest of the year and just the fourth time this year they have had a double digit rebounding disparity … York had 15 assists or more for the tenth time this year … the Spartans failed to block a shot for the first time this year … Panopoulos tied her career high with 18 points as she also had four rebounds, three assists and two steals … Panopoulos was 5-for-9 from the floor, and 1-for-2 from three and 7-for-8 from the free throw line … Alyssa Hocker, one of the Spartans' two grad players, notched a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds in her 34 minutes of play … Breana Grim had 11 points, four rebounds, seven assists and five steals in the win … Burda was the fourth Spartan in double figures with 11 points while she also had four rebounds.

The Spartans begin their post-season journey on Wednesday night as they head to Chester, PA to take on second-seeded Widener in the MAC Commonwealth semifinals. The Spartans will be the tournament's three seed. Albright will travel to top seeded Messiah to face the Falcons in the other semifinal. The two semifinal winners face off for the title on Saturday, March 1 at the highest remaining seed.
