WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson women's basketball team (18-7, 14-4 NJAC) coasted to a 66-29 home New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) win over Ramapo (3-22, 2-16 NJAC) Feb. 19 on senior night at the Sports and Recreation Center.
William Paterson honored its four seniors, Jade Martinez, Mackenzie O'Brien, Victoria Palladino and Esmeralda Ruiz prior to the start of the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Ramapo scored the first basket of the game before being kept in check throughout the first quarter as WP outscored the Roadrunners, 22-5, to grab a 15-point lead (22-7).
- After taking a 20-point advantage (36-16) into the half, the Pioneers opened the third quarter on a 14-0 run to extend the lead to 34 (50-16) with 4:32 on the clock.
- WP maintained its double-digit lead the rest of the way and secured the 66-29 home win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Graduate student Brianna Smith scored a team-high 13 points while adding six boards and four assists.
- Martinez logged 10 points and a team-best six assists.
- Junior Renee Wells recorded 10 points, five rebounds and a pair of steals.
UP NEXT:
- Third-seeded William Paterson will host sixth-seeded New Jersey City Saturday, Feb. 22, in the quarterfinals of the NJAC Tournament slated for 1:00 p.m.
