CAMDEN, N.J. – The William Paterson women's basketball team (17-7, 13-4 NJAC) extended its win streak to four after capturing a 71-58 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) road win over Rutgers-Camden (9-15, 5-12 NJAC) Feb. 15.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Pioneers trailed 4-3 with 8:18 on the clock in the first quarter before catching fire offensively and outscoring the Scarlet Raptors, 22-6, to end the frame with a 15-point lead (25-10). During that stretch, WP shot 10-of-14 (.714) from the field as a team with junior Patty Walsh leading the charge with eight points.
- The lead grew to as large as 30 (64-34) with 2:56 remaining in the third quarter after a 3-pointer by senior Jade Martinez capped a 19-5 WP run.
- Despite being held to just three points in the fourth quarter, the Pioneers' lead proved to be insurmountable and WP earned the 71-58 road victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Graduate student Brianna Smith shot 6-for-9 (.667) from the floor for a team-high 16 points while adding three rebounds and three assists.
- Walsh scored 14 points on 7-of-9 (.778) shooting with six rebounds and a pair of blocks.
- Senior Victoria Palladino went 4-for-6 (.667) from the field and 3-for-3 (1.000) from deep for a 12-point performance. She added a game-high six assists and four steals with five boards.
- Junior Renee Wells finished with 12 points, two rebounds, three assists and three steals.
