Low Scoring Fourth Lifts Centre Over Berry

DANVILLE, Ky. - Berry finalized their road series at Centre this afternoon taking on the Colonels, falling 50-45 to bring their overall record to 16-7 and SAA record at 6-4.

The Vikings knew this would be a tough road matchup after falling to Centre by four at home back on January 12th. Senior, Kenadie Lee suited up to play, posting another 14-points in her second consecutive game to lead the team.

Jayda Wood scored the opening bucket of the game that gave Berry the lead until the fourth quarter. The Vikings continued to dominate the first quarter with Elly Callihan nailing a triple and following it up with a jumper at the 1:57 mark on a 9-0 run. Holding Centre scoreless at home until free-throws at a minute and a half was huge in the first half success of Berry.

However, Centre found a spark behind their home crowd on senior day to finish the quarter on an 8-4 run of their own to cut the deficit at 13-8.

In the second, Centre continued to try and claw back and claim a lead, but Wood's huge three took the lead to 8 even though the Vikings made two triples for the entire 40-minutes of play, both in the first half. Up 11 at the half, Berry just needed to contain and continue their great defensive effort to claim the road victory.

Lee and Wood highlighted the third quarter for Berry, being the only Viking scorer's and holding off Centre with still a 9-point lead heading into the final 10 minutes of regulation.

A cold fourth quarter doomed the Vikings as Centre finally found a way to score, Berry could not buy a bucket, only scoring 5 points the entire quarter, coming late. Centre tied it and took the lead a little over halfway through the final, and as Berry struggled to score, their exhaustion on defense set in and they were unable to contain any longer. After a triple from the home team, the lead that Berry held all night changed for the last four-minutes where it mattered most.

Berry will be back in action in their final road game of the regular season at Oglethorpe this Wednesday at 6:00 PM ET.
