READING, Pa. – Chanelle Lee's (Brunswick, Md./Saint John's Catholic Prep) fifth 20-point game of the season helped Hood College women's basketball defeat Albright 56-51 and sweep the season series for the first time in program history, on Wednesday evening.

Lee scored 20 points while shooting 58 percent from the field and grabbing eight rebounds.

Tiffany Manning (Randallstown, Md./Western Tech) finished with 12 points and four rebounds, while shooting 55 percent from the field.

How it Happened

Manning got the Blazers started with a free-throw line jump shot late in the shot clock. Some early turnovers prevented Hood from being able to settle-in on the offensive end and the Lions took advantage. Albright went up 9-4, while scoring all of their points in the paint. Following. timeout halfway through the quarter, the Blazers made some adjustments and started to turn defense into easy offense. Hood was able to force turnovers and score in transition. After the first ten minutes the Lions held a 12-9 lead.

The Blazers continued to protect possessions and generate points, but Albright kept scoring too. Lee was scoring pretty much every time she shot the ball; she scored nine of her 20 in the second quarter alone. Serenity Ritchie (Martinsburg, W.V./Martinsburg High School) checked into the contest and contributed too. Albright went up by seven points, then Hood cut the deficit down to one. The Lions responded with a run and were winning 28-23 at the break.

Albright opened the second half by getting to the free-throw line and converting on multiple possessions. They went up by as many as nine points before Kourtney Johnson (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch High School) found Manning for the easy two. Aliyah Taylor (Randallstown, Md./Pikesville High School) also got in on the action and added to the Blazers' offense. Lee returned to the game and earned her points at the line.  The game continued to be back-and-forth, as nobody could sustain an unanswered run. As time expired, Johnson had a tough finish through contact to give Hood momentum entering the final frame. The Blazers trailed 40-34 with just ten minutes remaining.

The fourth quarter belonged to Hood. Their aggression on the offensive end drew many fouls and earned multiple easy points at the free-throw line. Six different Blazers scored in the final quarter. Albright held a narrow lead with two minutes remaining. After a good screen, Johnson flashed to the basket and took two defenders open. Lee was left open, in what was a costly mistake, and Mari Faust (Burke, VA/Lake Braddock) found her for the game-tying three pointer. Hood's stifling defense kept Albright from ever scoring again and the Blazers secured the 56-51 conference win in a hostile environment. This marks the first time that Hood has swept the season series against Albright in women's basketball program history.
