Doyle Double-Double Leads Knights Past Bard

More news about: Clarkson

Annandale-on-Hudson, NY – Much like the first meeting a few weeks ago, the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team amassed a significant lead over Bard College in the first and second quarters and never looked back in its 60-37 Liberty League win on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights improved to 7-12 overall and 3-9 in conference games while Bard saw its conference mark fall to 0-12 and 2-17 overall. Clarkson is back at Alumni Gymnasium for the next two weekends, taking on William Smith College on Friday evening.

In the opening quarter, the Golden Knights took advantage of Bard's many miscues to gain a small advantage. Cassidy Dumont hit a 3-pointer on the team's first possession immediately after a steal, one of four steals that she personally had in a stretch of 3:20 after the opening tip. Overall, Bard committed 11 turnovers in the first quarter, two more than the team had shots. Clarkson wasn't particularly dynamic in that period, but the Knights did enough to gain a double-digit lead through the first 10 minutes.

The second quarter saw Clarkson hit five 3-pointers from four different shooters as the advantage stretched to more than 20 points. Addie Kea and Emma Chambers hit 3-pointers late in the quarter to expand the lead as the Knights cruised into the break up by 21 (32-11).

Similarly to the prior matchup in early January, Bard found its offense in the third quarter and had a slight advantage in that 10-minute stretch, though the Knights continued to make shots from the perimeter. Elizabeth Aiossa hit one from beyond the arc and Fallon Griffin hit two more over the course of roughly 90 seconds to have the Knights up by 21 near the midway point of the frame. Bard would trim the margin down to 18 by the end of the quarter.

Any hope of Bard momentum continuing into the fourth quarter was quickly squashed as Cassidy Dumont hit two free throws and Bella Doyle made a layup in the first 32 seconds of the period. Bard finally was able to connect from the outside to put the margin back to within 20, but Clarkson handled a healthy lead of at least the upper-teens for the remainder of the contest.

Bella Doyle nearly recorded a triple-double in the game, coming up with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 assists in 27 minutes. Raelin Burns and Fallon Griffin each tossed in 10 points for the Knights, while Cassidy Dumont finished with six steals and nine points.

For Bard, Aislynn Dixon had a team-best eight points in 27 minutes and Lexi Miller ended up with 12 rebounds.
