ST. DAVIDS, PA – The York College women's basketball team posted their third straight win with a 70-49 victory at Eastern University in MAC Commonwealth play on Saturday afternoon in St. David's, PA.
The Spartans set the tone defensively as they limited the Eagles to just 14 first half points including five in the first ten minutes of play.
The Spartans improve to 12-7 overall and 5-3 in the league while the Eagles fall to 2-17 overall and 1-7 in the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The game got off to a slow offensive start as neither team was particularly great shooting the ball. The Spartans started to get it going midway through the first quarter as they led 10-2 with 4:15 remaining in the quarter. Damiyae Moyet hit a three for Eastern but the Spartans finished off the quarter by outscoring the Eagles 7-0 over the final 2:04 of the period to take a 17-5 lead after ten minutes of play.
• The Spartans scored the first four points of the second quarter to push out to a 21-5 lead but the Eagles scored the next six points to slice the Spartan lead to ten with 6:45 left in the period. The Spartans then went on a 13-3 run to cover the final 6:31 of the quarter. Breana Grim led the way with five points as York led 34-14 at the break.
• York's Taylor Brenneman opened the third quarter with a bucket but the Eagles scored nine of the next 13 points of the game, trimming York's lead to 17 at 40-23. After York scored two straight buckets, the Eagles scored six straight of their own as the Spartan lead shrunk to 44-30 with 3:31 left in the quarter. The Spartans ended the quarter on a 10-3 run fueled by Morgan Adams and Georgia Panopoulos to take a 54-33 lead to the fourth quarter. Adams had six straight points on the run while Panopoulos scored the final four points on the spurt.
• After the Eagles opened the fourth quarter with a bucket, the Spartans ripped off seven straight points to push the lead to a game high of 61-35 with 6:54 left in the game. The Eagles responded with seven straight points of their own, cutting York's lead back to 19. The teams would go back and forth over the final five minutes of the game as York posted the 21-point victory.

The Spartans finished the game shooting 50% (28-for-56) from the floor and 50% (7-for-14) from three in addition to going 7-for-12 (58.3%) from the free throw line … the Eagles shot 24% (18-for-75) from the floor while they were 9-for-28 (32.1%) from beyond the arc … Eastern was just 4-for-7 (57.1%) from the free throw line … exactly half of the Eagles 18 made field goals came from beyond the arc … the Eagles attempted 19 more shots than the Spartans … York held a 46-42 edge on the glass but the Eagles had 18 offensive rebounds which helped lead to the shot disparity … York led for 39:29 (98.7%) of the game as they never trailed ... York's largest lead was 26 points … York had a 16-10 margin in total assists … the Spartans committed 20 turnovers which led to 19 Eastern points while Eastern's 14 turnovers led to seven York points … Eastern had 14 steals … York blocked another four shots in the win … Jeriyah Johnson led the Eagles with 19 points but she needed 25 shots to reach her 19 points … Johnson was 7-for-25 from the floor including 3-for-10 from three and 2-for-3 from the line … Johnson added five rebounds, four assists and four steals … Trinity Upton added 11 points, five rebounds and a steal … Upton was 4-for-14 from the floor including 3-for-5 from three … Damiyae Moyet added 9 points as she was 3-for-10 from three … Johnson, Upton and Moyet combined to make all nine of the Eagles three pointers.

The Spartans now lead the all-time series against the Eagles 10-1 as York has won ten straight in the series … York is now 8-0 against Eastern as Commonwealth opponents … York improves to 3-4 on the road as they have now won two straight away from home … the 20-plus point win is the Spartans' fifth of 20 points or more this year … York limited Eastern to just 49 points after holding them to 44 in the January 11 home win over the Eagles … York has held five opponents to 50 points or below this year … four of the Spartans' five Commonwealth wins have come by double figures … Eastern's nine three pointers were the most allowed by York since they surrendered 11 in the win over Lake Forest on December 30 … the two teams combined for 19 free throw attempts, the second lowest of the year (16 at Gettysburg on November 26) …York won the rebounding battle for the second straight game … the Spartans committed 20 turnovers and that's the third time this year they have had 20 or more in a game … York blocked another four shots as they have notched 22 blocks in their last four games … York placed four in double figures led by Breana Grim who tallied 17 points … Grim was 6-for-10 from the floor, 4-for-4 from three and 1-for-2 from the stripe while she also had five rebounds, one assist, two steals and a pair of blocked shots in her 36 minutes of work … Morgan Adams recorded her seventh Spartan double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds … the 13 rebounds were one short of her Spartan career high (vs. Lake Forest) … Adams was 7-for-14 from the floor while she did not make a trip to the line for just the third time this year … Alyssa Hocker added 12 points, seven rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal in 29 minutes … Taylor Brenneman added 12 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals … Brenneman was 6-for-8 from the floor in the win.
