MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) - Junior Jayden Hill (Kenosha, Wis.) scored a career-high 18 points and freshman Abby Cole (Fond du Lac, Wis.) tied a career-high with 17 points to lead Wisconsin Lutheran College to a 76-49 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win over Lakeland on Wednesday at Time of Grace Center.
The Warriors (11-7, 8-1 NACC), who outscored the Muskies 24-7 in points off turnovers, shot 51.4 percent from the floor in the first half to open up a 25-point halftime lead.
WLC trailed 5-3 two-and-a-half minutes into the first quarter before a 7-0 scoring run gave them a 10-5 lead. After LU came within two points at 11-9, Wisconsin Lutheran put together another 7-0 scoring burst to double its advantage to 18-9 with four minutes remaining. The Warriors held a 22-13 lead after an opening quarter which saw them shoot an even 50 percent from the floor.
A 12-0 scoring run midway through the second quarter, the largest of the game, extended WLC's lead to 21 points at 39-18. Wisconsin Lutheran's lead never dipped below 19 points over the final four-and-a-half minutes of the first half, and sophomore Margie Stevens (Oneida, Wis.) drilled a three-pointer just before the buzzer to give the Warriors a 50-25 halftime cushion. WLC improved to 52.6 percent shooting from the floor in the second period, as Hill and Cole finished the first half with 16 and 15 points, respectively.
Wisconsin Lutheran's lead never went below 22 points in the third quarter, as it limited Lakeland to just seven points on 2-for-16 shooting. The Warriors held the Muskies scoreless over the final 5:05 of the period, while scoring the final eight points of the quarter for a 64-32 lead heading to the fourth.
Senior Kara Troxel (Bonduel, Wis.) opened the fourth quarter with a three-pointer to give WLC a game-high 35-point lead at 67-32. LU outscored Wisconsin Lutheran 15-4 over the next seven minutes of the game, but the lead never dropped below 24 points in the final frame.
Hill scored a career-high 18 points to lead four players in double figures. She added nine rebounds, six assists, and two steals. Cole matched a career-high with 17 points, along with eight rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Senior Janiyah Goner (Milwaukee, Wis.) added 12 points, while Stevens finished with 11. The Warriors shot 43.9 percent (29-for-66) from the floor, 35.0 percent (7-for-20) from three-point range, and 78.6 percent (11-for-14) from the free throw line.
Jenna Shea scored 11 points off the bench to lead Lakeland (9-9, 6-3 NACC), which shot 32.8 percent (19-for-58) from the field.
