Tigers Score Program Record 109 Points, Rout Centenary At Home

A three-pointer from junior Avery Johnson made history for the Colorado College women's basketball team on Friday night inside Reid Arena. Johnson's three gave the Tigers 109 points against Centenary, breaking the program record for the highest-scoring game.
 
CC routed Centenary 109-37, beating the former record of 108 points, which happened twice in Tiger history, last on Dec. 16, 2022, against the University of Dallas. The first occurrence, the record for 22 years, was against Eastern New Mexico University on Feb. 1, 1980.
 
"What a fantastic night for our team," head coach Katherine Auguste said. "To have every single player contribute by way of their scoring and defensive effort was truly special."
 
It's the second time since head coach Katherine Auguste took the helm that the Tigers have put up 108 points. It's also the third time in the last three seasons that CC has put up at least 100 in a game. 
 
Senior Zoë Tomlinson led all scorers with 20 points and finished with seven rebounds, an assist, a block and a steal. 
 
Junior Kayla Mackel dropped five three-pointers and finished 5-7 (71.4 percent) from long range for 17 points. She added two rebounds, three assists and a block. 

Defensively, the Tigers dominated Centenary. CC held its opposition to 37 points, the lowest since holding Southwestern to the same amount on Jan. 6, 2023. 
 
Sophomore Willa McLaughlin put up a career-high six blocks. The Glenwood, Wash. native dished her first career double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, both career highs. McLaughlin shot 4-5 from the floor and added a career-high four assists while playing a career-high 24 minutes for good measure. 
 
"Shout-out to Willa for her career night of a double-double in points and boards along with her four assists, two steals, and the monster six blocks she brought to the floor," Auguste said. 
 
Mackel ignited the scoring for the Tigers by dropping the first 12 points, all three-pointers. Johnson assisted on three of them and finished the game with nine points, a career-high 27 minutes, four rebounds and a new career-high seven assists. 
 
Sophomore Juliana Garcia dropped a career-high 14 points in her 23 minutes on the floor, the most of her college tenure. She made four three-pointers, also the most in her career. 
 
Freshman Addie Meyer and sophomore Sofia Rocca had career highs in minutes, points and rebounds.  Meyer finished with five points, nine boards and a steal. Rocca added nine points, six glass swipes, and a career-high three assists. 
 
"Kayla and Juju got things going on offense with their long-range games for sure," Auguste said. "Addie and Sofia held things down on the glass, and their effort in terms of both rebounds and defense was tremendous." 
 
"Last but not least, Avery's seven assists were huge," Auguste added about her team. "This was one of those games where we competed at a high level from start to finish and capped off a great week of preparation with a solid performance. I'm proud of this group and excited to keep working as we get deeper into conference play."
 
CC scored 38 points in the first quarter and shot 65.00 percent from the floor, including 53.33 percent (8-12) from the three-point range.
 
The Tigers followed up with a 55.33 percent clip in the second quarter, limiting the Ladies to only 17.65 percent from the floor. They didn't let up in the second half, shooting 66.67 percent in the third and outscoring Centenary 47-18 in the second half. 
 
CC outrebounded Centenary 47-27, didn't surrender a single three-pointer all night, and held the Ladies to only 25.9 percent from the floor. 
 
With the 109-37 victory, the Tigers improved to 14-2 (6-1 SCAC) and 8-0 at home. They will face the University of Ozarks on Sunday at 1 pm MT.
