ASHLAND, VA – The sixth-ranked Johns Hopkins women's basketball team took on Randolph-Macon in its first true road game of the season Saturday afternoon, falling to the Yellow Jackets in overtime, 75-74. The loss drops the Blue Jays to 3-2 on the season while the win moves Randolph-Macon to 4-1.

Hopkins rode the hot hand of Elisabeth Peebles early in Saturday's contest, with the junior scoring seven of the Blue Jays' first nine points to keep things level halfway into the opening quarter. The Yellow Jackets attempted to pull away from there, growing their lead to as many as six before a jumper from Macie Feldman with 44 seconds left cut the deficit to four at 21-17 after one.

The second quarter belonged the Hopkins' bench, which got buckets from Emily Collins, Layla Henderson and Kendall Dunham as well as a pair of Greta Miller free throws and Michaela O'Neil putback to trim the lead to one. A 1-2 visit to the free throw line from Feldman leveled the game at 44 — the first time since it was 9-9 — before a Randolph-Macon jumper with 16 seconds on the clock send Hopkins into the break down 36-34.

The Blue Jays came out rejuvenated in the second half, shooting 47% from the field while limiting the Yellow Jackets to just 31% en route to a 21-12 third quarter that appeared to turn the tide. Hopkins actually fell behind by as many as six three minutes into the quarter, but would go on a 10-0 run in the next 2:13 on triples from Peebles and O'Neil as well as a Dunham layup in transition to jump in front 48-44. O'Neil would score Hopkins' next three points — the senior scored in double figures for the fifth time in as many games this season with 14 — to keep the Blue Jays in front before a pair of freebies from Dunham and a Miller layup gave Hopkins its largest lead of the game at 55-48 entering the fourth quarter.

Saturday's final frame in regulation was one of runs, with the Yellow Jackets opening the quarter on a 9-2 run that leveled things at 57 before Grace Soltes, Dunham, O'Neil and Peebles responded with an 8-2 burst of their own to retake the lead at 65-59 with 3:11 to go. From that point on, however, the Blue Jays were held without scoreless, with a potential game-winning layup for Randolph-Macon's Catherine Kagey rimming out to send the game into overtime.

Despite trailing for the majority of the extra period, it was a timely Peebles triple that gave the Blue Jays a critical 74-73 lead with just 40 seconds on the clock. On the ensuing possession, however, it was Cagey making up for the miss in regulation with a layup in the paint that would give the Yellow Jackets the lead for good. A pair of missed free throws from the hosts gave Hopkins a chance to win the game, but the Blue Jays were unable to get a shot off, turning the ball over as the game clock expired to suffer their second loss of the year.

Four Hopkins starters got into double figures paced by a season-high 19 from Peebles, while Dunham added 10 points off the bench — the junior helped the Blue Jays outscore the Yellow Jackets 19-1 in the category. O'Neil registered game-high totals in rebounds (11) and blocks (2) while Feldman dished out four assists. The 75 points allowed and shooting percentage of .444 were both season-highs by an opponent for Hopkins.

The Blue Jays will get a short break before returning to action Monday, Dec. 2 for a matchup against Washington Adventist, with opening tip scheduled for 6 p.m.
