THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Eight different Regals connected from three-point range at home on Wednesday evening, leading to a 92-58 win over La Verne (3-11, 0-6 SCIAC). Natalie Villamor and Sara Mills each hit three of the team's season-high 13 three-pointers to lead Cal Lutheran (10-3, 2-2 SCIAC) to its seventh-straight victory.
The Regals entered the matchup on an unexpected eight day's rest after their road game versus Occidental this past weekend was postponed due to the ongoing LA wildfires. That game has been rescheduled for February 10.
The extra rest may have led to Cal Lutheran's slow start, as it trailed 12-14 after the first quarter which included an 0-8 mark from distance.
It wouldn't take long for the Regals to catch fire in the second period, with Alexa Greenwood knocking in her team's first three-pointer of the game off the dish from Kaiya Mack in the first minute to take a two-point lead. The Leopards would respond to tie it at 18, but soon after the Regals would convert again from deep thanks to Sydney Heyn off a kick-out from Aliya DiMuro.
Cal Lutheran would hold on to the lead for the remainder of the game.
Villamor, a freshman, finished with a team-high and a personal career-high 14 points while contributing to an impressive 43 bench points for the Regals, attributing to the depth of this team. Head Coach Kelli DiMuro called it a "complete team win" as 19 players touched the floor on Wednesday night.
A. DiMuro and Alline Ballard controlled the paint for Cal Lutheran, as each of them finished with a double-double. DiMuro had 12 points, 11 boards, and two blocks, and Ballard totaled 10, 12, and one, respectively.
Mills would finish with 12 points as she reached a career mark of 150 made three-pointers. She sits at fourth all-time in Cal Lutheran history in that category.
The backcourt duo of Mack and Janna Holley filled up the stat sheet. Mack scored nine points, dished out six assists, and recorded a steal and a block. Holley dropped seven points, along with six assists, three steals, and a block.
Makayla Harding scored her first career points as a Regal, knocking down a three late in the fourth quarter off a dime from Alana Brackett.
Brackett connected on her first career made field goal for Cal Lutheran with a strong and-one on the Regals' final possession. She completed the three-point play at the free-throw line shortly after.
Cal Lutheran spread the ball around beautifully, garnering a season-high 21 assists as a team.
Up next for the Regals is another home conference clash, hosting Caltech at 5pm this Saturday, January 18.
