Fifth-year guard Kasey Schipfer scored 7 points and sophomore post Macy Miller added 6 more as 18th/19th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan opened the game with a 19-2 run, and fifth-year guard Lauren Denison (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) set a Bishop career record in a 68-31 North Coast Athletic Conference win over Kenyon on Wednesday in Gambier.
The Bishops scored the first 10 points of the game, with Schipfer scoring on a tip-in, senior post Karlee Ross sinking a lay-in, Denison hitting a pair of free throws, Miller scoring on a steal-and-lay-in, and Schipfer adding another lay-in during the first 3-plus minutes of action.
Alyssa Horsley put the Owls on the scoreboard with a lay-in midway through the first period, but Ohio Wesleyan answered with the next 9 points, with Schipfer converting a 3-point play and following with a tip-in and Miller scoring a pair of hoops from the paint for a 19-2 lead with 3:01 remaining.
A 3-pointer by junior guard Mia Guscoff and a Denison jumper extended the margin to 24-4, and after the Bishops took a 27-6 lead at the end of the first quarter, only once during the remainder of the game would Kenyon come closer than 20 points.
Miller led the Bishops with 18 points and 10 rebounds, going 9-for-13 from the field. Schipfer finished with 16 points, Ross scored 12 points, and fifth-year point guard Elizabeth Homan had a game-high 8 assists.
Denison's start in the contest was her 112th in a row, breaking the Ohio Wesleyan record of 111 consecutive games started set by Kelly Heil from 2001-05.
