ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Nazareth's sharp-shooting led by Chianna Williams helped to take down the SUNY Polytechnic Institute Wildcats on Saturday afternoon in a 90-38 blowout, including 54 points from the Golden Flyers' bench.
Nazareth's conference record stays perfect at 4-0 with the win and 10-3 overall, while SUNY Poly's record drops to 0-3 in the conference and 1-10 overall.
Nazareth went into the first quarter hungry for points, as they started the game off with a 10-0 run in under five minutes of play. Both Nazareth's offense and defense continued to thrive throughout the quarter as the Golden Flyers closed the door on the first quarter at a score of 26-7.
Madalyn Kelly led the scoring in the first quarter with nine, followed closely behind by Sarina McDowell with eight. Williams and Kiara Anglin each added three in the quarter, while Katie MacLachlan and Leah Fusilli added two and one respectively.
There was no let up from the Golden Flyers in the second quarter, as Nazareth shot 55.56% from both the field and the three. Another 10-0 run from Nazareth in the middle of the quarter allowed the Golden Flyers to score another 26 points, while holding SUNY Poly to 12. Going into the half, the Golden Flyers led with a score of 52-19.
The freshmen duo of Payton Littlefield and Williams combined for 17 of Nazareth's points in the quarter, Littlefield with nine and Williams with eight. Brayden Schultz had four points in the second quarter, while Fusilli and Anglin added three and two respectively.
The third quarter was not Nazareth's strongest shooting quarter, however fantastic defense from the Golden Flyers held SUNY Poly to only nine points, which allowed Nazareth to outscore the Wildcats by six and increase the lead to 67-28 heading into the final ten minutes of play.
Kelly and Molly Benetti led the third quarter scoring with four each. MacLachlan, Anglin, and Littlefield all added a pair of points, while Fusilli added another free throw.
In the final quarter of play, Nazareth continued to light it up on the scoreboard, while holding SUNY Poly to only 10 points. Schultz led the way with eight points, followed by Williams with six, Tessa Schuey with five, and Fusilli and Morgan Caraballo with two each.
Williams led Nazareth in scoring with 17 points, as well as adding six rebounds and two blocks. Fusilli led the team in rebounds with eight, while also tallying seven points. Kelly was the next highest scorer with 13, followed by Schultz who had 12, while also adding four rebounds, two assists, and two steals. McDowell counted eight points, while also earning six rebounds and five assists. Anglin had a seven point game with three rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Schuey tallied five points, six rebounds, and four assists. MacLachlan and Benetti each had four points, while MachLachlan added three steals, two assists, and two rebounds, and Benetti added two blocks. Also on the board for Naz was Caraballo with two points, three steals, three rebounds, and two blocks. Madilann Johnson had two assists and two rebounds for the Golden Flyers.
The Golden Flyers will be back in action on January 17th at 5:30 p.m. as they travel to Hartwick for another conference competition.
