YORK, PA – The York College women's basketball team recorded their first MAC Commonwealth win of the year with a 100-44 victory over Eastern University on Saturday in York.
The 100 points were a season high for the Spartans as they had all 14 players who saw action, score.
York improves to 8-5 overall and 1-1 in the MAC Commonwealth. Eastern falls to 1-12 overall and 0-2 in the league. The Spartans improve to 5-2 at home this season.
 
How It Happened
• The Spartans got off to a fast start as they raced out to a 15-2 lead with just under five minutes left in the first quarter. The Eagles halted the Spartan run with a Jeriyah Johnson jumper but York hit back-to-back threes to kick start an 8-2 run as the Spartans took a 23-8 lead after one period of play. York shot 62.5% (10-for-16) from the floor in the quarter.
• The Eagles scored five of the first nine points of the second quarter, cutting York's lead to 27-13. Trinity Upton's bucket at the 7:49 mark would be the last time Eastern scored in the quarter. The Spartans finished the half on a 24-0 run over the final 6:26 of the quarter. The Spartans were 10-for-12 from the floor in the run including 3-for-4 from three. Conversely, the Eagles were 0-for-10 from the floor including 0-for-4 from the free throw line with three turnovers as the Spartans took a 51-13 lead to the break.
• The Eagles came out of the half and hit the Spartans with a 13-4 run, cutting the Spartan lead to 55-26. York rebounded to rip off a 16-3 run to take a 71-29 lead after 30 minutes of play.
• Eastern scored seven of the first 11 points of the fourth quarter but the Spartan offensive buzz saw continued as an 18-2 run pushed the lead to 93-38 with 2:55 left. The Spartans would get to the 100 point mark in their final offensive possession of the game.

The Spartans shot a blistering 55.6% (40-for-72) from the floor including 10-for-24 (41.7%) from three … the Spartans were 10-for-19 (52.6%) from the stripe while the Eagles were just 1-for-6 (16.7%) from the line … Eastern shot 29.7% (19-for-64) from the floor and 5-for-16 (31.3%) from distance … York held a big 51-32 bulge in rebounds including a 12-8 margin in offensive boards … York had a 16-4 edge in second chance points and a resounding 52-18 bulge in paint points … the Spartans had a season-high 33 fast break points in the game …. York had an 11-2 margin in steals … Eastern had 16 turnovers which cost them 20 points while York had eight miscues which cost them seven points … the Spartan bench outscored their Eastern foes 51-5 … the Spartans led from wire to wire in the game … Jeriyah Johnson led the Eagles with 17 points while she also had three rebounds, and two assists … Trinity Upton was the other Eagle in double figures with 12 points.

The Spartans have won nine straight in the series as York is now 9-1 all-time against the Eagles … the 100 points was the first time they reached the century mark since they defeated St. Mary's 103-67 on February 19, 2020 … the Spartans placed six players in double figures that night led by Kayla Ferris' 22 points and Molly Day's 21 … York reached the 100 point mark for the sixth time in school history … the 100 points are the most as members of the MAC Commonwealth … the 56 point win is the biggest of the season and the biggest since the Spartans beat Alvernia 90-33 on December 29, 2016 in New York as part of the NY Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament which the Spartans won the next day against SUNY Poly … the 40 made field goals is third on the single game list for York, three short of the team record set against Southern Virginia on January 6, 2018 … the 55.6% shooting from the field was a season high and was the second time this year that York has converted 50% of their shots or more in a game (51.7% against Lebanon Valley) … York's ten made three point field goals is a new season high and the first time they have reached double figures in made threes this year … the Spartans held their third opponent below 30% shooting in a game … York won the battle on the glass by 19, their second-highest total of the year (31 vs. Fitchburg State) … the Spartans dished out a season-high 25 assists in the win … York had a season-low eight turnovers … the Spartans had 11 steals marking the eighth time they have reached double figures this year … junior Breana Grim led the Spartans with 20 points in 20 minutes of play to go along with three rebounds, three assists and a blocked shot … Morgan Adams recorded her fourth double-double of the year with 12 points and 11 rebounds while she also had four assists, three blocks and three steals … Georgia Panopoulos came off the bench for 12 points in just 18 minutes of play while she also had five rebounds, one assist and one steal … grad forward Alyssa Hocker was the fourth Spartan in double figures with 11 points while she also had six rebounds … sophomore Kaila Fitzpatrick set a new career-high with nine points as she was 3-for-3 from the floor including 2-for-2 from three and 1-for-2 from the line.
