Furious Fourth Lifts Nazareth Women's Hoops Past Pioneers

ROCHESTER, NY – The Nazareth women's basketball team outscored Utica 24-6 in the fourth quarter to run away with a 65-40 victory on Friday night. After scoring a career-high 22 points in Nazareth's Tuesday win over Houghton, sophomore Sarina McDowellpoured in a game-high 21 points.
 
Nazareth has now won three-straight and is 9-3 overall and 3-0 in Empire 8 play. Utica is 2-9 overall and 0-2 in league play.
 
Nazareth led 23-14 with just over four minutes left in the half but Utica closed on a 9-2 run to come within 25-23 at the break.
 
The third quarter allowed Nazareth to get a little breathing room as it led 41-34 before taking full control in the fourth.
 
With the score 50-40 with 5:59 left in the game, Nazareth held Utica scoreless the rest of the contest to earn the 25-point victory.
 
McDowell was 9-of-16 from the floor with six rebounds. Kiara Anglin delivered nine points, five steals and rebounds, and three assists.
 
Madalyn Kelly, along with Molly Benetti each contributed eight points. Leah Fusilli had a game-high 10 rebounds.

Nazareth hosts SUNY Poly on Saturday at 2 p.m. in another Empire 8 matchup.
