Lady Blues Fall at Lawrence

APPLETON, Wis. – Lawrence used a big push in the middle quarters to get past Illinois College, 63-47, in a Midwest Conference women's basketball contest on Saturday at Alexander Gym.

With the victory, Lawrence improved to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play while IC dropped to 2-8 and 0-3.

The first quarter was a dead heat as the teams were tied at 17 after the initial 10 minutes of play. The Lady Blues held a 20-19 lead with 4:07 to play in the second quarter when the Vikings unleashed an 11-0 run over the next three-plus minutes. IC scored in the final 18 seconds and Lawrence took a 28-22 lead into halftime.

The third quarter saw Lawrence push its advantage to as much as 15 at 44-29 with 12 seconds to play. LU increased the lead to 20 points on two occasions in the fourth quarter and cruised to the victory.

Anna McKee was the only IC player in double figures as she posted a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. She also led the squad with three assists. Kallie Oestreicher added eight points for IC while Ashlyn Wightman had seven points and six boards for the Lady Blues.

Wightman now has 923 career points in her journey to join the 1,000 career-point club at Illinois College.
