WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's basketball team got a terrific all-around game from senior Lulu Ohm (Waltham, Mass./Waltham), who led the team in scoring, rebounding, and assists, and a strong defensive effort late, holding visiting Worcester State without a field goal in the fourth quarter as the Judges defeated the Lancers, 65-48, in their non-conference finale tonight in Red Auerbach Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game featured six ties and five lead changes. The Judges led for most of the first half, but were never able to pull away from the Lancers.
- Scoring was tough to come by in the first quarter, with no player making more than two field goals. Brandeis led, 16-12, as they were able to get six different player involved, while WSU had four scorers.
- The Lancers battled back to tie things up at 20-all at the 6:49 mark of the second quarter on a layup by Katie Hurynowicz.
- Brandeis closed the half on a 9-2 run on buckets by four different players, including a 3-pointer with 33 seconds left by sophomore transfer Sofia Berisha (Old Tappan, N.J./Winchendon School) in her debut with the Judges. It was the first trifecta of the game for either team after14 misses.
- Ohm and junior Abby Kennedy (Half Moon Bay, Calif./Half Moon Bay) each had six points to lead the Judges in the first half, while Hurynowicz had eight for Worcester State as Brandeis owned a 29-22 lead.
- The Judges pushed the lead to nine points on a layup by Katherine Vaughan (Bedford, Mass./Bedford) to open the second half.
- WSU made their best run of the game, outscoring Brandeis, 14-2 over the next four minutes of action. Hurynowicz had eight points during the run, including a three-point play that gave them the lead, 34-33, with 5:09 left in the third and a pair of free throws that extended the lead to three points 39 seconds later.
- The Brandeis defense clamped down from there, allowing Worcester State just one field goal over the final 15 minutes of play, including the entire fourth period.
- A Kennedy 3-pointer tied the game up at 36-all, and a put-back jumper by senior Brooke Reed (Chantilly, Va./Westfield) gave Brandeis the lead for good.
- The Judges took a 44-38 lead into the final 10 minutes, then outscored WSU, 21-10, to pull away for the victory.
- Brandeis held the visitors to 0-for-7 from the floor, and though they shot 6-for-20 themselves, the Judges came away with 10 offensive rebounds in the final quarter. The Judges also forced eight WSU turnovers.
- Ohm scored seven points in the fourth, just three points fewer than the entire Worcester State team in the stanza.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Ohm stuffed the stat sheet with 17 points, a career-high nine rebounds and a game-high five assists.
- She shot 8-of-20 from the field and 1-of-3 from downtown.
- Kennedy added 15 points, shooting 7-of-21 overall and 1-of-5 from deep. She also had five boards, three on the offensive glass.
- The Judges controlled the boards overall, outrebounding Worcester State, 52-37. Reed added seven rebounds (five offensive), while Vaughan grabbed six (four offensive). Their 22-7 advantage on the offensive glass gave them a 17-4 edge in second-chance points
- Vaughan had seven points, three blocked shots and two steals to go with her six boards. With her three blocks, Vaughan moved into second on Brandeis's career list with 78, surpassing Lauren Orlando '09 and trailing only Natalia Zubko '00's 91.
- Brandeis also won the turnover battle, 21-14, and turned into a 21-15 edge in points off those miscues.
- WSU's Hurynowicz led all players with 20 points, hitting 6-of-14 from the field, 1-of-4 from 3-point range and 7-of-8 from the line. She also topped the Lancers with three assists. Mia Haynes paced the visitors with six rebounds, while three others had five.
- With the win, Brandeis secures its highest win total since at least 2022-23.
- The Judges improve to 3-2 all-time against WSU after the first meeting between the two squads since 2001.
