Sophomore post Macy Miller kicked off a pair of first-quarter runs that helped 10th/20th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan on its way to an 83-44 North Coast Athletic Conference win over Oberlin on Saturday in Oberlin.
Oberlin had taken a 3-2 lead on a jumper by Krystal Montas before Miller answered with a jumper that kicked off a 6-0 burst and put the Bishops ahead to stay. Fifth-year guard Lauren Denison followed with a 3-pointer and senior post Karlee Ross split a pair of free throws for an 8-3 Bishop lead.
The Yeowomen pulled within 15-9 on a jumper by Gabby Pena-Hilzen late in the period when Miller sank a jumper from the lane to start an 8-0 run that also included 3-pointers by sophomore guard Nora Johns and junior guard Mia Guscoff to put Ohio Wesleyan up, 23-9.
Oberlin closed out the first quarter with a Montas 3-pointer and opened the second period with a Montas lay-in to make it a 9-point game, but fifth-year guard Kasey Schipfer converted a 3-point play and Miller followed with a jumper from the lane to push the lead back to 14 points.
The Bishops pulled away with a 16-2 run early in the third quarter, getting a jumper and a 3-pointer by fifth-year point guard Elizabeth Homan, a Denison 3-pointer, a Miller lay-in, and a pair of hoops from Schipfer along the way.
Miller led the Bishops with 17 points and 6 rebouunds. Denison finished with 11 points and Homan had a game-high 7 assists.
