Late Capital Run Sinks 10th/12th-Ranked Ohio Wesleyan

Sophomore post Macy Miller sank a jumper from the lane to give 10th/12th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan a 58-52 lead with 2:13 left in regulation time, but Capital scored the last 10 points of the game to take a 62-58 win in a battle of unbeaten teams on Monday in Columbus.

Capital's Bri O'Connor hit a 3-pointer on the Comets' ensuing possession, then connected from long distance on Capital's following possession to even the score at 58 with 1:13 remaining.  After the Bishops missed a shot, Jenna Horsley sank a 3-pointer for a 61-58 Capital lead with :41 to play.  The Comets controlled another defensive rebound, and the Bishops were forced to foul, eventually sending Samaree Perkins to the line with :13 remaining.  Perkins hit the first of 2 free throws to give the Comets a 62-58 advantage.

Fifth-year guard Lauren Denison closed out the first quarter with consecutive 3-pointers to cap a 9-0 burst that put the Bishops ahead, 16-13, and Ohio Wesleyan closed out the second quarter in similar fashion, assembling a 14-2 run that included a 3-point play and a tip-in by Miller and 3 lay-ins by fifth-year guard Kasey Schipfer.

The Comets rallied during the third quarter as Horsley hit back-to-back 3-pointers and O'Connor sank a pair of free throws that cut the margin to 49-44 with 2:19 to go in the quarter, but Ohio Wesleyan held off the comeback and kept it at least a 2-possession game until O'Connor's consecutive trifectas late in the fourth period.

Miller led the Bishops with 23 points and snared 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Schipfer scored 17 points, senior post Karlee Ross led the Bishops with 11 boards, and fifth-year point guard Elizabeth Homan finished with 6 assists.
