SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College women's basketball team went on the road and won their sixth straight game thanks to a game-high 17 points from Summer McNulty in the 62-53 win for the Blue Jays.
Both teams got off to a slow start shooting wise and went into the second quarter tied 8-8.
The Blue Jays shot 8-for-14 in the second and went into the half ahead by eight. Elizabethtown forced 10 first-half turnovers, including seven in the second quarter, and had a 15-2 advantage in points off turnovers to take a handle on Saturday's Landmark Conference contest at O.W. Houts Gymnasium.
Etown held Susquehanna to 5-for-20 in the first half and led 25-17 at the break. McNulty posted eight first-half points for the Jays.
The River Hawks used a 16-4 run over six minutes in the third to grab a 37-34 lead with under two minutes left, but Etown ended the quarter on a 7-0 run. Cyleigh Wilson knocked down a jumper, Grace O'Connor came up with the steal at the defensive end and turned it into a driving layup at the other. Then, Wilson knocked down the Jays' only three of the game with 21 seconds left to give EC a 41-37 lead heading into the fourth.
That run extended to an 11-0 run through the first couple of minutes in the fourth as DaniRae Renno and Wilson hit shots to make it an eight-point game. Wilson was responsible for seven of the team's 11 points over that run to put Elizabethtown back in front, ultimately, for good.
McNulty's driving layup nearly midway through the fourth gave her 17 for the game and forced the River Hawks into a timeout.
Susquehanna was unable to shoot their way back into the game as Jess King grabbed those defensive boards for the Jays. Grace O'Connor, who had a season-high seven points for Etown in the game, King, Wilson, and Ella Gordon all hit free throws down the stretch to keep Etown in solid position. Gordon was 4-for-4 in the final 30 seconds after Julia Pinckert hit a three to make it a five-point game.
Elizabethtown will have 10 days off before returning to action on Tuesday, December 17, at Arcadia with a scheduled 6 p.m. tipoff.
