BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins led wire-to-wire in a 91-35 win over Bryn Mawr Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference action. The Blue Jays grab their third straight win as they improve to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference. The Owls fall to 7-4 on the season, including 0-2 in the Centennial.
Hopkins stormed out to a 20-3 lead in the game's opening nine and a half minutes. Six different players scored during the opening run for the Blue Jays. Jessica Smith and Michelle Jiang sandwiched buckets around layups from Macie Feldman and Michaela O'Neil in the final 71 seconds of the first quarter and Hopkins led 24-7 after one.
The second quarter was nearly all Hopkins, as the Blue Jays outscored the Owls, 26-5. After trading baskets to open the quarter, a Feldman driving layup at 8:40 sparked a 24-0 run. Layla Henderson capped the run with a bucket in the paint with 11 ticks on the clock. Once again, six players combined for the 24 points during the run, fueled by seven points from O'Neil. Hannah Mack had the final say of the quarter, draining a three-pointer for the Owls to make it a 50-12 game at the half.
The opening six minutes of the third quarter were more back-and-forth and after an Allison Stoudt triple for Bryn Mawr, Hopkins led 65-24. The Blue Jays then put together a 10-0 run, over a three-minute span to push out to a 75-24 lead. Sena Kaper-Dale hit a jumper with just six seconds to play in the quarter to halt the Jays' run.
Like the start of the third, the fourth quarter was back and forth in the early going. Bryn Mawr outscored Hopkins, 6-5, over the first five minutes and it was 80-32 Hopkins. Grace Soltes scored in the paint at the 4:44-mark to spark an 11-0 Blue Jay run as they lead ballooned to 91-32. The Owls accounted for the only scoring in the final 93 seconds, going three-of-four from the line, to make it a 91-35 final.
Michaela O'Neil led the Blue Jays with a game-high 17 points, going 8-of-10 from the floor. Soltes posted her first career double-double with 14 points and a career-high 10 rebounds.
