GRINNELL, Iowa - Grinnell College's women's basketball team dug a hole early and couldn't dig its way out in a 77-60 setback to Buena Vista University Tuesday night in non-conference play.
The Beavers shot out to a 31-14 lead by the end of the first period at Darby Gymnasium and were up 47-30 at halftime. Buena Vista was 10-of-19 from 3-point land in the first half and benefitted from 26 Pioneer turnovers throughout the contest.
Bailey Strovers '27 led Grinnell (5-2) with a career-high 14 points and nine rebounds, while Sara Booher '25 posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 boards. Booher, Skylar Thomas '26 and Cassidy Pak '28 all had three assists, Booher blocked three shots and Ware came up with two steals.
Buena Vista (3-3) never trailed after making a 3-pointer to start the game. The Pioneers kept it close as Booher made a layup to make it 3-2 and Strovers later had a free throw to bring Grinnell within 5-3.
But the Beavers gradually pulled away and built a 17-point lead by the end of the period. Grinnell could get no closer than 12 the rest of the way.
The Pioneers are at home again Saturday when Crown College visits Darby for a 3 p.m. matchup.
