Potsdam, NY – Following Cassidy Dumont's early 3-pointer, the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team never trailed or were tied as the Golden Knights cruised past crosstown rival SUNY Potsdam 62-39 at Maxcy Hall.
The Golden Knights evened their record at 3-3 overall while Potsdam also moved to .500 at 3-3. Clarkson has a midweek game against SUNY Poly next Tuesday, its first home contest of 2024-25, and then re-enter Liberty League play the first weekend of December against Skidmore and Rensselaer.
Although Clarkson led early, Potsdam was still hanging around early on in the first quarter when Xy'El Bradford made a layup and added a free throw to make it 12-9 at 4:19. Bella Doyle took over for the rest of the quarter for Clarkson, making a shot in close and then hitting a pair of 3-pointers in the final 70 seconds to give Clarkson an 11-point advantage. In the second quarter, Cassidy Dumont hit to key 3-pointers to help the Knights double-up the Bears with 5:57 remaining (28-14), but Jenna Cotter responded with a long-range shot at the other end. However, those were the last points of the half as Clarkson returned to a double-up advantage (34-17).
At the start of the second half, Fallon Griffin hit a 3-pointer and Dumont hit a 3-pointer to again double-up Potsdam (44-22) and the lead would expanded to as many as 26 after Addie Kea hit a 3-pointer at the 5:35 mark. At the start of the fourth, Clarkson pushed the lead to as many as 30 points with just under seven minutes to go and cruised from that point forward.
Bella Doyle ended the game just shy of a double-double in only 23 minutes, scoring 18 points with nine rebounds on 6-for-9 shooting with four 3-pointers. Cassidy Dumont tossed in 14 points in only 17 minutes, going 5-for-7 from the field with four 3-pointers. Fallon Griffin also scored 11 with three 3-pointers, helping the Knights shoot 13-for-28 from beyond the arc.
For Potsdam, Sara Richards and Xy'El Bradford each scored eight points. Clarkson had a 32-24 edge in rebounds and had four fewer turnovers.
