24th-Ranked Ohio Wesleyan Downs Heidelberg, Moves to 5-0

Sophomore post Macy Miller scored 12 points during the first quarter to help 24th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan start on its way to a non-conference win over Heidelberg on Saturday in Tiffin.

Fifth-year guard Kasey Schipfer converted a 3-point play on the opening possession of the game, kicking off a game-opening 15-0 Ohio Wesleyan run.  After hoops by Miller, fifth-year point guard Elizabeth Homan, and Schipfer, Miller followed with 3 consecutive buckets to make it 15-0 less than 3 minutes into the contest.

Chloe Gilbert sank a pair of free throws to put Heidelberg on the scoreboard, but Ohio Wesleyan followed with a 12-2 run that started and finished with Miller baskets.  Fifth-year guard Lauren Denison closed out the first-quarter scoring with a 3-pointer that gave the Bishops a 30-7 lead.

Schipfer scored 6 points and Homan recorded a steal and lay-in to cap a 10-2 run that opened the second quarter and gave the Bishops a 40-8 lead.  Heidelberg answered with a 12-2 run, with Jewel Persinger contributing a 3-pointer and a pair of free throws and Kami Whiteaker finishing off the run with a pair of baskets that made it a 42-20 game, but that 22-point margin would be as close as the Student Princes would come.

Schipfer led the Bishops with 17 points and 9 rebounds.  Miller finished with 15 points, Denison scored 13, and Homan added 10 points and a team-high 6 assists.
