WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Catholic women's basketball team went on the road for its first true away game of the season against a Landmark opponent in Wilkes. The Cardinals dominated from start to finish in the contest and coasted to a 91-34 victory for their first Landmark win of the season.
The Cardinals started out with three free throws from Alexa Kenah and did not look back from that point on for the rest of the game, leading 26-13 after the first quarter. Catholic used the charity stripe to get out to a lead for the most part in the fourth quarter, shooting 10-for-12 (83%) as a team. Carly Mulvaney led the offense in the opening quarter with seven points.
Catholic continued to build on the lead in the second quarter, opening things up with an 18-2 run to get out to a 44-15 lead. Anna Scoblick dropped six points during the run with Lauren Kraft, Keegan Douglas and Raquel Guidetti all scoring over the run as well. The Cardinals held the Colonels to just 20% from the field in the quarter and took a 49-23 lead into the halftime break.
The Cardinals made the most field goals as a team in any quarter for the game in the third after going 9-for-21 from the floor and the impressive defensive efforts continued into the final quarter as Catholic held Wilkes to 0-for-12 from the field to help it finish off a convincing 91-34 win to get to 4-1 (1-1) on the season.
Scoblick was the leading scorer for the Cardinals for the second straight game with 18 points while going 6-for-12 from the field. Mulvaney and Kerry Flaherty also finished in double figures with 10 a piece. Catholic had 14 different players score in the win and they held Wilkes to just 21% from the floor, the lowest by a team against the squad this season.
The Cardinals finished the game with 30 steals which was a program record and the most by a team while facing a current Landmark opponent. It also tied the Landmark record for steals in any game, tied with Drew in 2016.
Catholic will be back in action on Wednesday, December 4 for another away Landmark contest against Susquehanna. Tip off is set for 6 pm at the Orlando W. Houts Gymnasium.
