William Paterson Women's Basketball Rolls to 86-21 Win Over Medgar Evers in Home Opener

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson women's basketball team (2-1) was victorious in its 2024-25 home opener, defeating Medgar Evers (0-2), 86-21, Nov. 13 at the Sports and Recreation Center.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • William Paterson took a commanding 23-4 lead through the first quarter of action.
  • The Pioneers outscored the Cougars, 18-3, in the second frame and entered the halftime break up by 34 (41-7).
  • William Paterson maintained control of the game and continued to build on its lead before securing the 86-21 home win.

 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Senior Brianna Smith scored a game-high 14 points to go with six assists and five rebounds.
  • Sophomore Mattison Chiera recorded 12 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists.
  • Junior Renee Wells logged 11 in the scoring column to go with four assists and four steals.
  • Freshman Kasey Slade went 4-for-7 (.571) from the floor for eight points.
  • Sophomore Patty Walsh had six points and a team-high seven boards.
