Allegheny Women's Basketball Uses Strong Second Half to Beat the Barons, 70-46

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio -- A strong second-half performance propelled the Allegheny College women's basketball team to an impressive 70-46 road victory over Franciscan University on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, Allegheny (6-8, 5-4 PAC) climbed above .500 against Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponents and moved into sixth place in the conference standings.

The Gators played a sound game on both ends of the court against the Barons (3-11, 1-8 PAC). The team's 70 points are the third-most scored in a game this season, and the offense tied a season-high with a 42.9 3-point field-goal percentage (6-of-14). Defensively, the 46 points allowed are the second-fewest the Gators have allowed this season, thanks in part to a constant full-court press that helped Allegheny record 13 steals.

Leading 30-27 at halftime, the Gators ran away with the game in the third and fourth quarters. Allegheny scored 20 points each quarter, shooting 53.3% (16-of-30) in the half. After the Barons scored the first two points of the third quarter to make it a one-point difference, the Gators rattled off 13 unanswered points to pull ahead 43-29. The defense surrendered only seven points in the third quarter, and in the fourth, a Jasmyn Fisher (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) 3-pointer gave Allegheny its largest lead of the day at 28 points, 64-36, with five minutes left in regulation.
