Blue Jays Put on Offensive Showcase in 96-37 Win over Bryn Mawr

BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins women's basketball team hosted Bryn Mawr in Centennial Conference action Saturday afternoon, putting together its best offensive performance of the season in a dominant, 96-37 win.

Layla Henderson led the Blue Jays in scoring for the second time in her career, pouring in a game-high 15 points to pair with six rebounds, four assists and a game-high three steals. The freshman was joined in double figures by Kara Milliken — who scored a career-high 14 points on 4-7 shooting from 3-point territory — and Michaela O'Neil (12), with the junior extending her double-digit scoring streak to 11 games. Five other Hopkins players scored at least eight points in Beth CorelliGreta MillerMacie FeldmanJadyn Murray and Abby St. Onge — the senior set a new season-high with eight — to lead the Blue Jays to their highest point total since 2016.

As a team Hopkins (21-2, 17-1 Centennial), shot a season-best 50.6% from the field on 40 made field goals. This is the first time the Blue Jays have shot over 50% on the year, with their 40 made field goals falling one shy of the program record of 41 originally set in 1991. The team's 25 assists also set a new season-best mark.

After both sides scored on their opening possessions, a made jumper by Feldman ignited a 12-0 run to give Hopkins a commanding 14-2 lead just under four minutes into the contest. The Blue Jays' offense cooled off from there outscoring the Owls (2-21, 0-18 Centennial) 12-8 over the remainder of the quarter, with a 3-pointer by Henderson making it a 26-10 game after one.

A third of the way into the second quarter Hopkins used another 12-0 run that featured triples by Elisabeth Peebles — her first bucket since returning from injury — and Milliken to balloon the lead to 30, with a free throw line jumper from Corelli sending the Blue Jays into halftime up 48-16.

Saturday's third quarter was the most tightly-contested of the afternoon, with the Blue Jays narrowly outscoring Bryn Mawr 22-14, but it was Hopkins' bench scoring the Blue Jays' final 16 points of the frame — capped off by a pair of St. Onge buckets and Grace Soltes three — to make it a 40-point game with ten minutes to go.

The start of the fourth belonged to Henderson, who scored the first seven points of the period to get to her game-high tally before Hopkins' bench took over once again. With the score 77-30, Milliken and St. Onge went on a combined 10-2 run to put them up 55. The Owls scored on their next three offensive possessions, but a Corelli three-ball gave the Blue Jays their biggest lead of the day and secured the 96-37 win.

Hopkins is back in action Wednesday, Feb. 14 for their final road game of the regular season. Tip-off for the Centennial matchup against Washington College is set for 6 p.m.
