Conn College Can't Rally Back at Colby

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Connecticut College women's basketball team came up on the short end of a 66-57 final against Colby College on Sunday afternoon in a NESCAC showdown at the Margaret M. Crook Center.

Colby scored five points in the game's opening minute and never trailed. Lydia Mordarski paced the Mules with a game-high 15 points while Kate Olenik and Ana Von Rumohr tacked on 11 and 10, respectively.

Hayle Thompson (Maynard, Mass.) led the Camels with 13 points while Catie Donadio (Clinton, Conn.) and Avery Burns (Orleans, Mass.) each added 11. Rebecca Oberman-Levine (Hamden, Conn.) chipped in seven points and five blocks as the Camels shot just under 39 percent for the game.

Colby's quick start left the Camels playing catch-up for the rest of the game. Conn pulled even once, tying the game at 15-15 on a three-point play by Thompson with 7:47 left in the second quarter. However, the Camels didn't score again for the rest of the half, missing on their last 12 field goal attempts of the stanza.

The Mules netted the final eight points of the half to lead 23-15 at intermission. Mordarski led all scorers with eight points at the break.

Colby opened the second half with 12 straight points to build the lead to 20. Burns drilled a three-pointer midway through the period to get the Camels back on track, but the Mules ended the third quarter with a 48-29 advantage.

Conn battled to the finish, outscoring Colby 28-18 in the fourth quarter before running out of time. Donadio netted nine of her 11 points in the final period to lead the charge.

Conn College (5-14 overall, 0-6 NESCAC) will next play at Amherst College on Friday, February 2 at 7:00 p.m.
