BOSTON – A dominant first quarter propelled Emmanuel College (MA) Women's Basketball (9-9, 6-1 GNAC) past the Regis College Pride (6-12, 4-3 GNAC) 75-62 Wednesday night on Andy Yosinoff Court. The Saints never trailed over the 40 minutes on the way to capturing their sixth Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory of the 2023-24 campaign.
Desiree Robinson (New Haven, Conn.) started the Saints off immediately after tip-off with a layup just four seconds into play. Emmanuel would go on to start the game on a 13-1 run and continue to extend their lead throughout the opening 10 minutes, leading by as many as 24 and finishing the opening frame with a 30-10 advantage. It was the third time this season Emmanuel has scored 30 points in a quarter and the Saints' highest-scoring first quarter of the campaign.
Emmanuel held strong throughout the second quarter and took a 46-25 lead into the break. First-year guard Meagan Schuermann (Cooperstown, N.Y.) led the Saints with 12 first half points.
The home side continued to control the game for the remaining 20 minutes of play. Regis was unable to cut the lead to any less than 13. The Saints' largest lead of the game topped out at 30 points at 58-28 midway through the third quarter. Emmanuel would go on to secure at 75-62 victory on their home court.
For Regis, Courtney Doherty (Willimantic, Conn.) finished as the game's leading scorer and rebounder with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Madi Zancan (Cumberland, R.I) added 17 points. Schuermann led the Saints with 15 points. Paris Atuahene (Phoenix, Ariz.) filled up the stat sheet with a 14-point, seven-assist, and five-rebound performance. Robinson also finished with 14 points. Senior forward Kiera Eubanks (Portland, Maine) tied her season-high in blocked shots with five.
Up next, Regis will travel to Lasell for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday (1/27) at 2:00 P.M. Emmanuel will pay a visit to GNAC foe Dean College on Saturday at 1:00 P.M.
