Millikin Women’s Basketball Wins Fifth Straight

The #17 Millikin women's basketball team won its fifth straight game defeating Elmhurst University 93-80 in Elmhurst, Illinois on January 20.

 

Millikin lead after the first quarter 25-19 after the first quarter and had a 42-33 advantage at halftime. Millikin had trouble finding a rhythm in the game battling foul trouble and a determined Elmhurst team. The game saw 51 fouls called and the teams combine to shot 52 free throws. The Big Blue shot the ball well from the field hitting 55 percent (32-58) including 8-15 (53 percent) from three-point range. Millikin was 21-27 from the free throw line. Elmhurst made 43 percent (29-68). The Bluejays made 7-19 from three-point range with all seven coming in the second half including going 5-8 from beyond the arc in the fourth quarter. Elmhurst was 15-25 from the free throw line.

 

Senior Bailey Coffman led Millikin with 24 points, a team high eight rebounds and two blocks. Coffman was 3-3 from three-point range. Elyce Knudsen added 16 and Kyleigh Block added 13. Bloch went 3-3 from three-point range. Matayia Tellis had 11 points, five rebounds and four assists.

 

Lindsay Novak led the Bluejays with 17 points making five three-pointers.

Nariyah Smith had 13 followed by Payton Schmidt with 12.

 

Millikin goes to 15-3, 7-2 while Elmhurst falls to 7-11, 1-8.

 

The Big Blue return home for two key College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) games this week that will have a major impact on the conference standings. On Wednesday, January 24, Millikin hosts its second go around with first place Illinois Wesleyan at 7 p.m. All fans wearing blue will receiving free admission to the game. The Titans hold a one game lead in the standings. The Big Blue won at the Shirk Center on January 17 93-91. On January 27, Millikin hosts Carroll University at 2 p.m. The Big Blue will be look avenge a loss at Carroll in December. The two teams are tied for second at 7-2.
